I'm not going to click that link, but you will be fine on the cheap plan. I've ran many websites, started many projects and blogs, and ran all of them off of a $10 a month plan. You only need to worry about hosting if you're running e-commerce, a message board, a video sharing site, or anything more complex than static pages (and maybe a comment section - you could use a plugin for that as well)

What's the point behind owning a domain? it's not like you'll automatically get more followers.

You could try advertising what you need to advertise on Newgrounds, Deviantart, Twitter, Facebook, Patreon, etc. and then link everything to 1 domain if you want to make that 1 domain worth something when you sell it.
