The Fed pumped the bubble. The problem is, when Trump was campaigning he called the stock market a "big ugly bubble" when he became President he started bragging about ATH's, he started demanding more debt, lower interest rates, QE to keep the bubble going.

So he did take ownership of the bubble. Instead of letting it burst and blaming Obama he started bragging about how monstrous the bubble was getting.

After quarterly review is published, go all in.

Also, buy any crypto that had a 50% drop in value over the past month - they will either get back to their previous level once economy recovers or go even higher.

I don't understand why some people insist on making bullish moves when the market sentiment is bearish, the collapse is inevitable and known, and ROIs of 500% - 1,000% can be met simply by shorting it to the bottom.

Why are you seeking an 200% return on investment in what will inevitably be three, four years down the road when the big money's right in front of you? It's like some people are on 'team bull' and can never turn this off even in the face of a global recession.

Industrial production, retail sales and investment in mainland China all contracted in the first two months of the year after the coronavirus epidemic wreaked havoc on the economy, official data showed on Monday.

Industrial production for January and February shrank 13.5 percent, the first contraction in around 30 years.

This was markedly worse than a Bloomberg poll of analysts which forecasted a 3 percent drop on-year.

Retail sales plummeted 20.5 percent on-year during the same period, after rising 8 percent in 2019.

Analysts had expected a 4 percent fall.

What you're doing is trying to predict the future. It's not a winning game long term. Buying stock in a good company now or after disaponting earnings reports is guaranteed to make a profit at some point. Shorting the market may be incredibly profitable, but it could also lead to unlimited loss. A vaccine could be announced tomorrow, a breakthrough in automation could allow businesses to resume as usual, or Trump could even start taking the crisis seriously. Point is, you can't predict exactly how things are gonna go, but you can reasonably predict that demand for McDonald's & iPhones is not gonna go away because of a few months of subpar earnings.

Predicting the future is easy when your prediction is highly probable and encompasses a reasonable span of time.

When COVID-19 began spreading in Italy, it was quite reasonable to suggest that the same would happen in America, in the span of months, and the market would crash if it did. Of course, you can't predict price movements every day, but if you had bought any puts a month back with at least a few months until expiry, it was surefooted profit due to the great probability of the aforementioned events.

> Amid a widespread shutdown of manufacturing operations, industrial production – a measure of manufacturing, mining and utilities activity – declined by 13.5 per cent over the first two months of the year, combined data for January and February showed.
> Retail sales, a key metric of consumption in the world’s second largest economy, fell by 20.5 per cent, again the first decline on record. This was well below the median forecast of a group of analysts, conducted by Bloomberg, which predicted a 4.0 per cent contraction.

Congressional estimates go from 75 million to 150 million.

CDC estimates go from 160 million up to IIRC ~225 million.

Deaths should be in the ~750k~2.25m range from COVID-19 and its secondary infections directly, but there will also be substantive "excess deaths" on top of that from people that just could get proper medical care due to the system getting completely BTFO. Lots of them.

This is unless new detection methods like drive up screening prove super effective and leaders go full draconian with their quarantines. And even that might just slow things down and just prevent "excess deaths".

To be abundantly clear, this is the most infectious pandemic in modern history and the second deadliest of the pneumonic pandemics. We have NEVER managed to do anything but slow down a pandemic before. If humanity triumphs here and actually prevents the pandemic from peaking naturally before vaccines are introduced it will be a literal first.

It's literally one of the least infective ever. About a quarter as infective as measeles and less than 5% as infective as Spanish flu. It's also not nearly as deadly as either of those, or SARS.
The issue is that China kept it secret for a month and a half, and millions of people with it traveled all over, so when governments started responding to it they were assuming it was new when it was actually already established. The US, alone out of developed nations, closed travel from China in January.

We rely on Asia for masks at this rate. The others are all things that are produced based on where you are in the world. I was speaking to what we typically see though. People who live off of taxpayer money awarded to them by the government consume plenty of goods that aren’t necessities. They’re able to reliably spend their money on electronics and a couple newer model year cars because the government also pays for their food and sets them up with a phone and also assists with their housing. I refuse to believe there is a living, breathing person in this country under the age of boomer that would buy shoes they don't need before internet unless they're a tinfoil living in the woods.

Nah some people really do just get fucked over in life. Some of them make the wrong decisions, aren’t born too bright, whatever.

I mean I think there are maybe 5 bad decisions between us and them.

>Also trading with disposable money only. People betting their life savings are retards
..unless they win.
And the more you win the more you tend to keep winning. This is how all the stock market giants started. And then they get to sell books about how to be amazing at STONKS like them.

Except the failure rate is extremely high. So the ones that make it through did the same shit the ones on the street did, but they got lucky a few critical moments.

It’s the same in most walks of life. The runaway success stories are never balanced with their contemporaries who flamed out doing the same shit. So we think it’s a fair game that can be understood and played.

Imo the only fair game to be played is the conservative one with minimal but consistent gains but that just makes you a middle class chump the rich squeeze to placate the poor.
It’s a shitty game overall. We need a new frontier.

You asked why one would generally be a bull over a bear & that is why. I'm probably just more risk adverse. This specific case was incredibly easy to predict, which is why I sold everything mid Feb but did not short, but it's more of a principle thing for me. Fundamentally, it's not hard to predict markets, but markets don't run on fundamentals, they run on hype. These markets are manipulated beyond belief & there are people with deep pockets and connections with a ton of incentive to abuse it for their benefit.
