Shortly after Trump’s announcement, Google issued its own statement about the site which appeared to offer a different assessment. The company gave no indication of a timeframe but said the tool, still in early development by Google and Verily, would be tested in the Bay Area “with the hope of expanding more broadly over time.”

The head of communications at Verily, an Alphabet subsidiary, told The Verge shortly after Trump's address that the website he described as a sort of screening tool was actually a “triage website” that was intended for health workers rather than the general public.

Carolyn Wang said plans changed to make the website publicly available after Trump's announcement, though it will still only direct people to testing sites in the Bay Area. It is expected to expand beyond California “over time,” Wang was quoted saying.

Depends on the term. There might be a short term pump but oil prices and any US based oil company are bogged in the long run. Russia/Saudi Arabia are going to grind US producers into dust.

US producers on average require a much higher price/bbl to stay afloat. Cost of extraction in the US is actually similar to other places now (wasn't the case in 2014 when the last great oil boggening happened) but US producers are fucking loaded with debt. There's gonna be a number of bankruptcies before the year is through.

Right now it kind of is, normally you are able to kind of anticipate graphs and see trends and whatnot, but the market in the last week has been a fucking circus. You might be trading fine at one point and suddenly theres an ungodly pump that makes the market raise 2000 points in 10 seconds and then fall 4000 in 5 minutes, then next day theres no bad news at all and the market goes down 10% and its followed by a day of terrible news and the market responds by going up 10% instead.

I feel sorry for all the goys that decided to get into stocks exactly now, theres a lot of money to be made, sure, but the wild swings have made more people lose money than otherwise, you mostly just see the good stories being posted.

“There's absolutely not 1700 engineers at Verily. I'm not even sure there are 1700 people at Verily,”the employee, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Daily Beast Friday. Fewer than 1,000 people work at the biosciences company, the employee said. Google did note on Twitter that Google employees from other divisions had volunteered for the diagnostic project.

The president seemed to indicate that the website would act as a sort of screening mechanism where Americans could calculate their symptoms and determine if testing was needed, while also saying it would “facilitate testing at a nearby convenient location.” Although that information may appear on the site, the main feature is a mapping tool, according to Google.

Officials inside Trump’s inner circle were trying to explain to reporters what exactly the site would do before the press conference even ended. Several officials told The Daily Beast that the site would allow individuals to type in their address and find their nearest testing site. The tool would also allow Americans to determine the closest mobile, parking-lot testing center.

The site would not act as a portal for patients looking to make appointments or request testing, those officials said.

I have the worst fucking luck. I've managed to pick the top to invest, and have panic sold before every dead cat bounce since then. I bought early February, sold before that Monday pump, and sold everything else just before today's huge pump. Down $15k from my initial investment.

Now I'm just going to hope it drops back below where I sold and go back in and ride it indefinitely because I clearly don't have any market timing luck.

You ever wonder what happens when too many people are short the market and something good happens, and then the bigger guys start covering their short positions?

That’s what I call “Jerome printing money” or “literally QE” or “the fed injecting liquidity in the market”, it’s a technical term for when shortsellers want to take profits have to buyback the stock they shorted.

Also people are trading the bounces. Nibbling and DCAing down, covering their shorts, adding to them, hedging and rehedging, taking profits or getting BTFO and margin called, etc.

I was 100% liquid for the last 2 years, had a lot of anxiety about it because the market kept wenting up. A mate of mine had like 50% growth, i was very jealous. He is down 40% now. Fundamentally I think this market still has plenty of room to move down. The issue is that nothing the government does right now will alleviate the massive losses from people not going out and from the supply chain being totally fucked. Just-In-Time supply chains can't deal with even a few days worth of slow down.
Thrown in cruises, theme parks, conventions, various events, all sports, etc being shut down and the market is being hammered on all sides. Government liquidity handouts won't help a LOT of companies, cities, and individuals. People who are still working but afraid they might get told to stay home for 2 or 3 weeks will hoard their cash in case they go without work and don't get paid.
I won't say that Monday will be red, but sometime next week when the market realizes it's only getting worse it'll keep diving.

I have ~$25k I could feasibly "gamble" with and my coworker was talking about buying puts. For an asymptomatic virus? Yeah.
Though the best option at this point would be mandated four week quarantines across the board with county officials giving people the go ahead to go outside and back into society one week after they test negative during a state check up four weeks later at their home. Those who have the virus and actually are showing life threatening symptoms can be transported to the hospitals by the state at any period during the quarantine (which also doubles as a means to help prevent crippling the hospitals).

This walmart drive thru shit is going to lead to a lot of community spread in the walmart parking lots and inside the store due to people waiting to get tested going shopping for snacks and food in the meantime, or sending their kids inside to play on the videogame kiosks.

So, question

The Fed is making these loans to banks as fast as it possibly can, and can't keep up. I also read here that they accept pretty much any garbage collateral the banks give them. And that BBB grade bonds are now 50% of all corporate debt. And that there's a big credit crunch coming.

What happens if the collateral defaults?

This is what Powell is scared of most. If liquidity dries up and the historic bond bubble bursts (which it's already showing signs of), interest rates will shoot back up and Fed will be forced to pour a firehose of money on it (yes, even more than they are currently) just to keep lending markets from blowing up.

Higher rates are good for banks in good times because they take advantage of a healthy yield curve to borrow short and lend long. However higher rates in bad times mean that ailing corporations will be forced to rollover their debt at MUCH higher rates, causing downgrades (fallen angels), defaults, and bankruptcies. Many banks are counterparties to interest swaps and other instruments between these other entities. It's all one big incestuous web so when one big player goes bust, the others are dealt a huge blow (see: Lehman, AIG). And yes, CDSs are being done on a large scale again today...

When the Fed announces a purchase operation (or repurchase agreement), primary dealers submit requests to sell/pawn their collateral (like t-notes, bonds, or mortgage-backed securities). An "oversubscription" is when the Fed receives more submissions than the stated operation amount.

For example take the term repos from yesterday. The Fed was only offering $45b for 2-week paper, but received $87.1b in submissions. It means that a LOT of banks/counterparties need the cash and can't get it from anyone else in the repo market (at least, not at the interest rate they need...)

All the dairy, eggs, cleaning supplies, and bulk calories (cereal, rice) are sold out at my Wal-Mart. This is perhaps the greatest illustration of the stock market being in direct conflict with physical reality and known, material facts.

On the ground, all working Americans are anticipating a horrible pandemic and preparing themselves to hunker down in their homes for weeks at a time to protect and care for their loved ones, such as their parents and grandparents. On Wall Street, the traders are anticipating 'just a dip' and (apparently) expect all economic indicators to swiftly return to normal as 2% of the population dies.

They're expecting Americans to continue to work, shop, and go in and out of their homes while mass death is happening and their families are endangered by this very behavior. They're expecting Americans to just shrug off the death of loved ones and walk out to buy a Tesla the very next day.

Why? The answer is as follows : they cannot see the worker and the consumer as anything more than predictable units of economic value. For the worker to care more about anything than his work is absurd. For the consumer to care more about anything than purchasing is nonsense.

Why do you think the CEOs of NYSE companies aren't providing paid sick leave? Why do you think they aren't extending bereavement/FMLA to their many part-time employees in this time of crisis? They really do think people will just put up with it.

They will have no idea what hit them when shit hits the fan.

I do believe that. I just find it hard to believe there aren't any schemers in fsb or among the oligarchs who aren't vying for the crown and can use this oil war and virus as a pretext for a coup

Everyone is pumping after the Trump speech but we are actually fucked unless the entire world goes on lock-down Wuhan style, testing won't prevent people from getting the virus and that number is increasing exponentially in the U.S and the entire world.

Nah

He’s a MMT guy not a commie
And freezing student debt interest is a good fucking move and takes more steam from the Dems. That was part of Biden’s plan, and similar to what they do in the UK. Freeze the interest until they make a salary that can actually cover it.
