GME is a big gamble, up to you. If biotech is too much, I'd suggest looking into SPCE calls for late this year. The test flight is rumored to be happening in mid summer and will generate a lot of press. All this corona stuff should have died down by then so the meme stock can soar. I'd look into getting the calls in a week or three once the market bottoms out to get the dirt cheap. I sleep now, best of luck anon.

Yeah, my low iq friend said to buy Ford because he thinks it's gonna go up, so after I bought a put I bought a call to hedge against any potential losses, should have trusted my gut. Also I bought the leveraged oil fund in the begging of the day I should have definitely waited until the end of the day I feel like. GME is now 100% profit for me... i didn't even know nintendo man was black... no wonder my wii got stolen... actually to be honest... before smart tv's the nintendo wii could go on the youtube and you could watch youtube on a tv... i mean this was pre-netflix we used to use simcards and shit to hack the wii's and pirate the games... fuck dude.... video games have to like basically hold their rights close too the chest because of intellectual property theft and a single game becoming free.... that's what drove sega to bankruptcy... they sold dreamcasts for less than cost hoping $50 per game and title licenses would support them, but the internet and private parties pirating the games and just burning the disks and selling them for 5 bucks privately or free killed the company.

Yes. VZ is much less levered up on debt much more dug in, and their margins are better too. Look at the financials and fundamentals. Att likely levered up to get ahead. dollar cost averaging is basically not buying your whole position at once.. it's basically buying the same $ amount of the same stock every month or every 2 weeks or whatever over the course of a period of time.. there are alot of youtube videos on it..

The way I see it is that you can't always time the exact bottom but if you spread your buys out over the course of a few months you can get pretty damn close.. if you do this with dividend payers you will also receive a dividend while doing this.. it takes time but what i'm saying will start to make sense over some time... it's a fairly safe way to invest as long as you don't pick a shit company thats why i say something on S&P500 or even DJIA.. you can use finviz to look for them.. they have a pretty good screener

>>17700396
basically just building up a position.. you should scale in and scale out.. atleast in my opinion.. just focus on a few stocks.. people start to stray from their investment goals and end up chasing shit and being spread out across like 20 stocks with like $200..... just focus on a few and build up those positions... there was a interview awhile ago with kevin o'leary where he explained that all he does is buy into weakness and sell into strength..

Dollar cost averaging is the brainwash message of those that don't know how to invest properly, or know how to make and execute value target accruements.

It's the lazy man's way. If you want to choose that go for it. Most do in fact. Most are also seemingly imprudent investors, hence why lots of 401ks got damaged this week. If you knew any better you wouldn't put so much trust in our current financial system and just make your moves that extract the most capital with the least amount of risk, not just "muh dividend, Warren Buffet, DCA" etc etc. Look at how most boomers AND Buffet have done over the past 20 years outside of riding the markets. It's not very good and under 12-15% a year is atrocious. People will defend their sub 15% per annum gains but it's just outright bad.

Would you learn how to become a master mechanic by just going to someone who does about as good or worse than everyone else, or would you go to the guy who understands what he is doing with depth and insight, not just parrotted sayings that are dispensed and taken as "wisdom". I made over 83% off of this and even got in late. My outlook is another 5-600% minimum in the next 3-8 months. Your decision, decide which path you want.

Banks are required to have a certain amount of liquidity (cash available for depositors) so that they don't pull a 2008 again, to some extent. Repo operations is the government giving banks cash (due to low liquidity and money allocation losses) in return for material assets (in contract). Meaning the gov/FED is loaning banks cash and holding the banks actual assets as collateral. Oversubscription means not enough banks have enough liquidity to meet the regulations. After all, banks are funded mainly by depositors until they bring in profit. They use your money to make them profits. Many banks are leveraged 10:1-20:1 by my understanding. Meaning if they had to pay off all debts, it would be 10 to 20 times what they have on hand, meaning depositors could lose their money. The FDIC is likelt just a tie into money printing, meaning IF or WHEN the banks lost people's money, the dollar would have to be devalued further to make up for your losses. So that 250k guarantee by the FDIC is PROBABLY less than what your original 250k was worth when considering actual buying power/inflation.

That depends. Maybe maybe not. Going straight S&P instead of individual stocks is difficult to beat long term. With individual company stocks you also have to monitor things like quarterly earnings reports, good or bad news specific to the company. Earnings reports can be high volatility and you can get a nice pump (earnings exceeded expectations), an unfortunate sell off (earnings missed expectations), or neutral. Or sometimes earnings is good but the thing sells off anyway. Or earnings is bad but it still pumps because fuck it. Stuff like that gets smoothed over when you only have an index fund rather than individual companies.

When you buy shares, you usually pay a tax or duty of 0.5% on the transaction.

If you buy:

shares electronically, you’ll pay Stamp Duty Reserve Tax (SDRT)
shares using a stock transfer form, you’ll pay Stamp Duty if the transaction is over £1,000
You’ll have to pay tax at 1.5% if you transfer shares into some ‘depositary receipt schemes’ or ‘clearance services’.

You pay tax on the price you pay for the shares, even if their actual market value is much higher.

Transactions you pay tax on
You pay tax when you buy:

existing shares in a company incorporated in the UK
an option to buy shares
an interest in shares, for example an interest in the money from selling them
shares in a foreign company that has a share register in the UK
rights arising from shares, for example rights you have when new shares are issued
When you do not pay tax
You do not have to pay tax if you:

are given shares for nothing
subscribe to a new issue of shares in a company
buy shares in an ‘open ended investment company’ (OEIC) from the fund manager
buy units in a unit trust from the fund manager
You do not normally have to pay Stamp Duty or SDRT if you buy foreign shares outside the UK. But you may have to pay other taxes.

If you're referring to dividends, it's to give incentivization for outside funding. They may make say 30% off of your original principle, but the business may be looked upon by the general investor as too risky etc. So they give you incentivization to buy it. Usually stocks like that are garbage though, and last winter I ran a somewhat in depth analysis on most of the highest paying dividend stocks down to about 4.5%. Once you hit around 4.5 is when your dividends aren't as steeply affected by stock price too. I could go on and on about the different angles but the DJIA and S&P are basically indexes.

Just started investing literally today but from what I've read today. I feel like cash averaging is very smart right now.
Everything is low, right now airlines are cheap because nobody is going to be buying tickets anywhere. People dont want to travel, however it looks like corona may be settling down.
Sell whatever you cash averaged in 5 months and started buying now, and your returns will be through the roof? Or am I not getting it?

Nothing is a safe investment. If you want safe, keep your money in the mattress. There are only tiers of risk.

Here is my old fag yells at clouds rant:
Do not take stonk tips from /smg/. Ever. Assume that everybody here has a vested interest in whatever crypto or stonk they're name dropping, and you'll be 95% correct. Now some of the pitches here have been good enough that they made me look up the symbol and do my own DD, but never go from /smg/ -> action.

Newfags want to trade? Open a brokerage account with $50. Use the watchlist/tracker/virtual trade feature of your trading platform. Now track your hypothetical positions, and when you are producing gains consistently and guessing right 80% of the time, you're ready to throw real money at the market.

Know most of the common terms on investipedia, and more importantly, why they matter. Prove your theory, research and strategies via paper trading, then go make some money.

i don't really get why the stock market tanks hard sometimes. like, surely someone is losing money when that happens. the stock market surely recovers. this is a temporary issue. it's a zero sum game, is it not? someone has to lose in order to win.

These huge swings are just fine! Sign of a completely healthy economy! See it's green some days that means good! We're clearly on the path to recovery, better buy this dip!

For a 2050 target, would you recommend large growth or large cap ETFs over target date funds? or a mixture of the two if you want to be moderately aggressive?

I'm not the person to ask my man, I'm 21 years old and wage slaving. If I had to make a choice I would say large growth as you have plenty of time to 2050 and can be riskier with your investments. Personally my employer matches my contributions up to 5% of my paycheck and I have recently upped my 401k contribution to 10% because of the dip in the market.

thanks fellas. i don't mind being down, i just figured it'd be better to hold things that i felt would make a better recovery, i'm still bullish for the good ol US long term. FTXO and SPY look very cheap right now boys.

I've been buying into AAL for awhile, but mostly because it is the one I use the most. DAL is probably a fine pickup though.

Prove they're going out of business. More and more people sign up with them everyday, even though they shouldn't because Robin hood steals a bit from each trade. ... You always pay a bit above real market price.

I am ironically pulling tons of cash out of my HELOC, and using it to short banks. I will literally be reducing their liquidity through my withdrawal and hurting their stock with downward pressure all the whole the loan will be a tax write-off. I think it's wrong and abusive if the system, but the stock market is evil and is why the Rich keep getting richer, and the poor poorer.
