People really want to buy the dip. Investors are looking to REITs and junk bonds and shit now that bonds give nothing. Many are willing to take the bet that a MRK JNJ KO will preform better over the next 10 years than bonds, especially given how heavily bought bonds are.

A lot is riding on the timing of data and how good or bad it is. If macroeconomic data takes a sudden big downturn right as corona infections are exploding... now that could be a real heavy hit to the market.

Otherwise, keep the cheap money flowing and maybe leveraged businesses won’t go bankrupt. Many will keep their employees on. We could thread the needle.

True. The reason shorting the index is hard is you will be wrong 9/10 times. A sell/short signal for a little 3% dip looks identical to the sell signal for a mass panic red waterfall of pink wojaks. I just ask because an article in the economist was basically saying because the government in Italy is being extensive people view it as an overreaction, which has turned it into an annoyance instead of a reason to panic.

On the other hand, when the government is obviously trying to downplay it like in the US, and the public can already see it’s not nothing, and the best epidemiologists like Fauci have said as much, it’s basically going to greate the conditions for widespread unease.

On another somewhat related note. I took a look last night into what's going on with banks. My main concerns were income/cashflow this coming earnings/EOY. Assuming enough people default or go delinquent 60-90 days, this could possibly mean another bailout (I really hope not) if the banks lose too much liquidity. They need to be able to have that money move around or there can be some systemic failures. US Bancorp and BAC are the two I'm eyeing right now. I am shorting one but in hindsight, considering the Fed might bail people out again, the shorts could end up at a loss, though timeline is key here. If the Fed drags it's feet then I can sell just after news is released of major losses, assuming there would be some. This China supply chain stoppage I fund to be very lucrative if you just know what to look for. Banks are still levered to some degree and they need liquidity in case customers that have deposited pull out.

I just really hope the Fed stops bailing these people out. I'm considering moving the country because of this. Add that with QE implementations and so on, it's not a bill I want to foot, and long term effects I'm assuming to be negative for income earners under 115-85k/ yr in medium to low COL areas. Wagies are already buying too much on debt so. Why use a system that keeps on failing?

On the Reserve website it's purposes and functions are:

-the problem being that maximum employment does not translate into necessarily gainful employment. Hence my statement about the income earners below certain threshholds. It operates an economic modulator of sorts but what do it's policies produce long term? Interest rates I won't talk about in this post.

2. 'Promotes the stability of the financial system and seeks to minimize and contain systemic risks through active monitoring and engagement in the U.S. and abroad;'
-How does a continual dollar devaluation and a continued amount of debt spending, economic risk taking (from a consumer and business standpoint) point to long term stability? The cost of entry is gated by banks and others for many if not most seemingly, and more and more risk seems to need to be utilized to acquire considerable gain over what I presume to be a longer time line. This points to continual economic roadblocking, not the opposite. Haven't we looked at past and current circumstances? "This time will be different" is going into the territory of the unsane.

As an Asian, I would say government action being more extensive is definitely being able to calm people better than otherwise, like how there are now 7000+ cases in Korea yet situation in Japan with a few hundred cases still seems more uncertain than that and would generate fear more easily. That's the different between "You know it is there" versus "We don't know do we have it or how many of it is here so you can guess and react according to what you fear".

Obviously leaving the country can mean a number of things, but over the past 30 years I have seen what I consider to be a continual decline in reward for time/energy spent (opportunity cost) being in America and other countries are now is the time to consider other options.

I was also in history class.
