How lucrative would it be to be a node operator, seems like a really stressful job/operation. As one fuck up will lose you everything.

Depends how much money is actually being paid out in smart contracts, which currently is like 0. Gotta wait for industry to adopt smart contracts and gotta hold a decent amount of $LINK relative to other node operators to get any contractors to trust your node. Chainlink hasn't even announced its dispute system for contractors yet (to claim you gave it bad data), so all of this is very far off, years.

You don't lose all your Link when your node goes offline, only a small portion. You literally have to be offline for a whole month to lose everything.

Yea but links are used as a collatoral if your a node operator for a credit default swap, that alot of fucking links.
