I don't understand how people don't realize how much downside still exists in the market. AAPL, one of the first to come out and say this going to make us miss our numbers for next quarter and potentially the entire year, and it's still up over $100 for the year. There are 0 fundamentals left in the valuation, the market will eventually rationalize and it gon be bad.

Apple is a company you can stick your money in and count on it not going out of business, and likely growing. You cant put it in a cd, bonds have shit yield. So you buy what you know, what you use every day.

Yes, thats very likely, but I meant as a new federal policy. Instead of Obamacare garbage, just have a federal program to support private health insurance. In fact, maybe the government should just pay you for going to the doctor for a check up once a year. Imagine if you go to your doctor for a standard check up, paid for by your insurance, then the left over is paid by the government, and they give you a $100 tax credit for doing the check up. Look there’s a lot of cool things we could do with healthcare to make it cheaper and have people live longer, healthier happier lived. I would bet against us doing any of it.

Not sure why people loathe the affordable care act so much but whatever. If you ask me, the idea of having your healthcare tied to your employment is ludicrous, and really fucks up hiring incentives. It makes hiring people less appealing, and it makes negotiating for a higher salary or leaving your job for a different job much more difficult. It’s just weird. Health care isn't actually tied to employment, its just used as a benefit. You can just buy healthcare plans normally. Obamacare was trash because it fucked up the price of insurance. Everyone who didn't have insurance through an employer was not REQUIRED to have insurance AND the price of insurance went UP. Additionally, if you already had health insurance, it may have caused it to expire or you couldn't renew your plan. Basically it was a complete cluster fuck. Thats why instead the government should provide incentives instead of making laws.

I come to speak the of the future dear anons. Here lies what is to come.
>Biden primary euphoria brings the markets to 30K points on the DJI over the coming weeks and perhaps months.
>At some point within the next 1-6 months the coronavirus accelerates into a full blown pandemic. The global average death rate is higher than initially expected at ~4% though this is only ~1% in countries with developed healthcare infrastructure.
>Burgers think it is only a flu. Many get infected due to a stupidity singularity like flying to Italy on holiday only to go large public events. Even more Burgers die than expected because many don't want to pay healthcare bills. Burger death rate is 2-3%.
>As the first wave of the outbreak hits the rest of the world the second wave begins in China forcing China to again close most factories.
>Supply chain disruption ensues as China and most of the world see workplace closures.
>During the summer of 2020 Locust Plagues devastate African crops.
>Famine ensues in Africa, which like the Arab Spring, causes revolt across much of the North and Eastern portion of the continent causing more supply chain disruption.
>Oil prices fall as demand falls from lack of consumer spending and factory closures.
>Sometime around here a loarge stock market shock takes place. Worse than great financial crisis, perhaps black Tuesday 2.0
>Media blames coronachan, but coronachan is only catalyst
>Zombie firms through stock buybacks, federally subsidized rehypothecation of junk debt and state debt monetization have artificially planned the economy for decades. Unlike the USSR, this planning was for profit not the benefit of the people. The end result will be the same.
>Central banks from Brussels to Washington to Beijing find their methods of greasing the markets inffectual. The decline continues, there is no recovery like in 2009.

The state of our health care system is really complicated and actually has a lot of outside influence, I'll try to give a short (yet incomplete). Theres a reason that nearly every new medical advancement comes out of America. However, the rest of the world basically price fixes medical care because the government pays for it. That means companies have no way to recover costs. Thats why in America the same treatments and drugs cost much much more, its one of the few countries that do not price fix and so companies can charge a "free market" rate. Then you have health insurance companies whom you pay a subscription to in order to get help paying these high fees if you do get sick. However, many people (homeless, illegals, fat people) take advantage of the system and get treated at hospitals who then have to write it off as a loss to the government so tax payers end up paying for these treatments. But if you have insurance, then theres basically a battle between the insurer and the hospital on who gets the money. Hospitals overcharge on purpose to get insurers to pay more, and insurers bargain down to pay less. You get the left over debt, but often you can negotiate by yourself with the hospital to lower the amount (otherwise they get another default debt which is worse than getting nothing). All this happens because the government has a twisted labyrinth of laws regarding all this medical shit.

Anyways to put it short: Everywhere price fixes, Americans pay for world health care, insurers fight with hospitals, and the government makes dumb laws.

We should be promoting preventative care though, and I think that would be a good place to start in fixing health care costs. Socialized healthcare would be a disaster for Americans and the world.

Communism doesn't rely on optimization. The only reason to have a semi-free stock market is to be able to gauge the optimal prices at which you can buy equity in a company and expect a return. Plus the financial industry is not as developed in China as it is in the US. If the stock market simply represents a financial mechanism through which public funds are allocated to private companies, and in which citizens can store their liquidity, you don't actually need it to run optimally. Just give the people a market that offers a return higher than the rate of inflation, and you're good.

$8.3B bill to battle a virus? No, elements of the Patriot Act are expiring this month and this is all pork spending for civilian surveillance

>What’s expiring in March?
>Three provisions from the PATRIOT Act and related surveillance laws with “sunset” clauses—which require Congress to renew them regularly—are about to expire: roving wiretaps, the “lone wolf” provision, and Section 215. We believe Congress should only reauthorize these provisions if it passes major reforms in the same bill (see below for more on what those reforms should be).
