Probably 50% silver, 25%gold/25% platinum. Judging by platinum's history it should spike again, which you could then sale and use the profit wherever. Personally I think gold will go back down eventually. Then again I'm really new into PM so take anything I say with a truckload of salt

50G 25S 25P is a much more sensible portfolio; 40G 40S 20P if you're going big on Silver spiking. If you want to make money on volitile commodities, then PMs aren't what you're after; you're better just playing the stocks or cryptos if you're suicidal.

Depends on your scope. Gold is the long term king of investment. You will rarely if ever lose money on investing in Gold, but at the same time you've got to acknowledge that Gold is on the scope of years.
Silver is the more volitile of the two, and due to it being subject to VAT you've gotta be more on your toes with it. Like Gold, it also has a general incline upwards with time, but at a lower rate; so it's more common to move Silver around to make money on the peaks (while with Gold, you don't really buy/sell at dips/peaks; you just buy it whenever and sell it at a reasonable peak when you need it)
Other PMs (usually Platinum, Palladium or Copper; in that order) are even harder to invest in than since they usually lack the rarity and value of Gold, or the backing and ease of Silver - and still need VAT. However, like any portfolio, only having investments in two aspects (Silver and Gold) leaves you very vulnerable to the shifts in the market (so if you need money ASAP and but you're waiting on a peak, this is where diversification comes into play). In turn, treat other PMs with the volitility of Silver, but with the time frame of Gold.

Personally, I've pumped my investment in Gold for the short term given that the markets are anticipating a crash (so it's less of a long-term investment where I want to make slow money, and more that I want to preserve the value of the money I have right now); but a pretty standard PM portfolio goes ~50-60% Gold, 20-30% Silver, 10-20% Other. Mine right now lies at 75% Gold, 15% Silver, 8% Copper, 2% Palladium (I've always been fond of Copper, it's not logical advice) - ALL physical (getting certificates/bonds kinda defeats the point of PMs)

In general, think of PMs as long term bank savings. Gold is the account where you get a good rate of interest but don't really withdraw much, if at all; but save it for a major purchase. Silver is the account where you still get a decent rate of interest but can move it around more.

Redpill me on ruthenium. Found a dealer who has a 1oz bar for 460 USD, which is way above spot and selling it will be difficult, but it's also super rare and has the potential to moon significantly.

Very legacy PM, not many trade with it any more.
In all honesty, you'll almost certainly make money with it (basically every PM right now is a secure investment as the stocks collapse, followed by cryptos, followed by currencies); but my main concern if I were to invest would be if there would be anyboy out there willing to buy it when you want to get get off of it, even more if you want to sell at a particular peak you're anticipating.

SILVER IS A MEME. Gold is the real PM. Silver is way too abundant, most mines produce it as a byproduct. A lot of silver mines are not operational for this reason. If they were, silver would tank to $5/oz. Also, no one gives a shit about silver, it's not valued like gold is. Convert your fiat to gold but never silver. If you're poor, just buy 1/10oz gold bullion.

>> No.17531790

>>17531361
Yeah, that's my main worry as well. It's still tempting though, as it's way more affordable than other rare PM's such as rhodium or iridium. If I bought it and wanted to sell, any idea where I would start looking for buyers?

Depends, but the internet would probably be your best bet.
If it spikes and you wanna get rid, I'd say throw the thing on eBay and don't get too greedy with the extra price you ask for on top (as in, within the sub-to-105% range to account for reasonable market flux while it's being sold instead of the usual scumbags which put 125%+ on Gold/Silver). Since you're dealing with a physical object, it's more important to get the thing sold + shipped than it is to scalp as much as you can on top of your investment growth. Provided the markets do peak as you're guessing, you should treat that as your profits over what extra you can make on sale (it's one of the reasons why I personally like physical Copper, the shit's almost worthless so you need load of it to make it a valid diversification, but it's stupidly easy to sell once you're ready and it's nice and stagnant, so I treat it as Gold with next-to-no growth for when I want to diversify to keep currency safe/don't want to make money/don't want the volitility of Silver. Plus if fills up space in my big safe with loafs and plates and makes me feel like a rich man :) )

>>17531794
He's wrong when he implies it's a complete meme, but at the same time, it's absolutely nothing compared to Gold. There are reasons why the safest form of currency backing is called the *Gold* standard.
Silver at the end of the day is much more subject to flooding, more affected by the market itself (instead of plodding along, doing its own thing) and is fundamentally a fiat investment if you're invested in Silver certification/bonds over real (because theres more Silver promised to people than there is on the planet)

Quick story for you young bucks on here...

In 2010, I was living in Louisiana. I was fairly involved in the local automotive scene, knew all the shops, all the cars, all the enthusiasts etc. Suddenly I started seeing all these random bad ass cars pop up: R34 GT-R, nice yellow Lambo, yellow GMC Topkick all tricked out, Mercedes G-wagon parked in weird places.

So I was at an apartment complex, touring the property with the manager girl and I saw all those cars parked in front of this one apartment. I said, "hey if you don't mind me asking, do you know who owns all those toys?" She's like, "yeah that's my boyfriend, he's living here while he builds his house in (super nice/wealthy area of Louisiana)."

We got to talking and I found out he was a little older, had been a banker at JP Morgan Chase for a few years out in California. Dude had been stacking gold, living frugally, like a madman prior to the 2008/2009 collapse. Gold went gangbusters and dude became a multimillionaire basically overnight. He then moved to Louisiana (for some reason, guess because his girl was from there) and opened up a bunch of shady ass iRepair and We Buy Gold type shops all over the city.

I always thought PMs were a meme, but after seeing that dude I learned to believe that you can absolutely make it to Lamboland from stacking this shit...so keep fucking stacking silver (and gold) Chads!

gold must hit $2k before true fomo starts, then it will pullback to $1800-1900 due to manipulation. but both silver and platinum can easily 2X-3X from here, they are at channel lows. JPM et. al. are suppressing the price of silver so they can accumulate before the big price surge.

Look up "Lucky Baldwin" he made his fortune in silver.

Decide how many ounces you want and how much money you want to spend for the year. You have a goal and a budget now. Divide the budget by your goal. We'll call this your "price foundation" of silver. Every time you buy silver divide that number by the spot price when you are buying silver. Buy junk silver for fractional silver.

> Example
> You decide that you want to convert $5000 to 250toz of silver by the end of the year. That establishes a price foundation of $20/oz. It's March now so you need to buy 25toz every month to keep on schedule. The spot price says $16.75 so you divide $20 by $16.75 to get 1.194. Multiply that by 25 toz to get 29.85. You could simply buy three 10toz bars and call it a day but if you want to be more precise you could buy a couple of 10toz bars, 9 generic rounds, 4 junk quarters, and 2 junk dimes (0.857toz junk weight). And just like that you are actually ahead of your own plans for the year.

What's your monthly budget? Always great deals to be had with European and pre-33 coins. Watch out for half-sovereigns, 20 francs, and $5 liberty heads. if you're really poor, look out for deals on mexican dos pesos. calculate how much over spot the fractional is. i have a rule of thumb where i don't spend more than $20 over spot per coin. this figure is lower for smaller fractionals like dos pesos. in reality, i spend about $10 over spot per coin on average. keep your eye out for deals on apmex, jmbullion etc. pmsforsale on reddit is also a great way to buy fractionals close to spot. in general, don't sweat premiums too much unless they're exorbitant because with gold, you can always find a buyer. just look at silver for fuck's sake, on ebay. there are chumps out there buying ASE's for $25-$30 a coin.

also, never buy coins for numismatic value. always only go by spot.

Gotcha. I have 1 coin shop near here, some decent pawns that check all their products I have a goodrep with. Don't know if they sell gold bars/rounds/fractionals. I stopped in the LCS today, introduced myself to the owner, bought a couple airtight capsules for my coins. I know he buys/sells alot of gold because they were talking about him picking up a bunch of gold at the most recent gunshow, and already selling all of it today. He seems like a decent guy, didn't mind answering all my questions and educating me a bit. Think he said he buys silver anywhere from $1.50 under spot up to spot if he's not flush with it

Sounds like you might have something there. It's a good thing that you're asking an important question that many don't think of at first: the exit strategy. Holding physical PMs is more complicated than trading stocks or crypto so it's good to get the lay of the land and figure out your options.

Yes I'm trying to learn everything I can. He knows I'm new and looking to just get silver low as an investment and not the numismatic side of things so he explained to me buying ASE is the best bet when it comes to selling one day because you can avoid 1099 with any govt min coins. Even though I will probably buy the bulk of my pm online I think I will buy something in there at least once a month. there's no advantage or anything, it's just that they can be found close to spot. and they're nicer looking than bullion. most of them have no numismatic value, but it's pretty cool to have a piece of history from 150 years ago in your possession. you can even go for 1/10 oz gold eagles, they're like $17 over spot.

Federal Funds Rate can be cut to combat recession and has been historically low since the housing market crash. Inherently Gold is better. Its value is more stable and resistant to dips in price. Also gold is less dependent on industrial demand. Also compared with Silver, gold tends to have lower premiums and no taxes (depending on country). Get gold if you can.

However, Silver is great because it's the hotter, more volatile, cousin of gold. When the market is bullish for metals, silver can go up several times % of Gold. Anyways when the metals dip, silver dips way faster than gold. Also, silver is obviously way cheaper; that's why us young people online prefer silver. Silver is also smaller scale so it's easier to liquidate and is flexible to buy smaller purchases with. Also, although some people see silver as a metal dependent on industrial demand, it is ultimately treated as a precious metal like gold. If you see the charts gold and silver move in the same pattern/directions; the rate of movement (silver more violent/gold calmer) is the only difference.
