people would rather be slaves paying a huge percentage of their income than adapt in any way. live in your car, move to a cheaper area, get a bunch of roommates, go live with family if possible. If it's in an area with a lot of illegal immigrants the fact that they are willing to live 12 guys to a studio apartment doesn't help your competitiveness here. maybe look at what they're doing, lower your expectations, and try to compete.

Because anon, the niggers and spics need all the housing for their numerous government funded offspring and your parents, the baby boomers need to pay the mortgage on their Florida house by charging you $1000/mo for a bedroom in a shitty townhouse.

>> No.17464615

Because nobody is buying houses. When nobody buys houses then the rent cartels can just keep jacking up the prices unchallenged. Combine this with the fact that demand rises de facto as a result of more people becoming adults every day, and you'll realize that rent prices are *supposed* to be going up.
Given that a lot of people have fucked up credit and cant get a mortgage, or are too lazy/stupid/self centered to consider purchasing cheap property in more rural areas, it's realistic to assume that rent will just keep ballooning. It's also probably a good idea to get in on rental property stocks.

Tell that to banks placing downright oppressive limits on who can get a mortgage.

I have enough for a down payment, a great credit score and a townhouse in my area would only cost me $750 or so per month. But because I can't find a well paying fucking job, I'm stuck renting bedrooms for that price despite spending so little that I am still able to save a lot per month.

You want to give shit to a cartel? Give shit to banks who don't care if you can easily pay if you don't meet their inflated arbitrary numbers and employers who won't even look past the most recent job on your resume because it's fucking security because I got laid off my admin job in 2018 and was desperate for any income.

It's not a bubble, it's legal price gouging. The company that owns the property you're renting has and will continue to run credit checks on everyone who is renting from them. In many places it's a contractual requirement for renting. They know (or can figure out on demand) exactly how many of you literally cannot secure a mortgage and have no choice but to continue renting. Like playing poker with someone that's allowed to see your hand, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what happens next.

>>17464666
Well yeah, a bank shouldn't lend you money unless you have a source of income that shows you'd be able to make the monthly payments. Whether you have the ability to cover the down payment is ultimately irrelevant when you have no income source. This isn't 2007.

>> No.17464832

>>17464780
But I can.

The problem is that in my country your mortgage payment needs to be 30% minimum of your total income after all other expenses. A mortgage would be close to 50% of mine but I spend almost no money as I pirate all my video games and media and only buy food pretty much.

The average rent here is far more than a mortgage but no one stops me from being forced to pay that.

Nobody's buying houses because they have no money. They have no money because their rent's too damn high (among other reasons). Since nobody can afford a house, demand for rentals rises and landlords get to jack up the rent. When they jack up the rent, people have even less money to spend on houses. Etc etc.

>> No.17465111

>>17464878
People being willing to buy condemned property and putting in the work to renovate instead of buying new. Or huge masses of people opting to live in their cars or shack up together. Something would have to happen so that running credit checks on people and finding poor credit scores wouldn't majorly correlate with rental demand. Make it so these companies have to actually work to get people to rent and can't just know ahead of time that they can get away with bending people over.

>>17464995
Yep. It's a strong feedback loop. It's possible to break the cycle, though. Problem is most people aren't willing to do what it takes to break the cycle and the banks/landlords know this.

Yeah that would suck. On the other hand it would be funny to take advantage of these laws like squatter rights to fight back against the banks and corporations buying up all properties to get a monopoly or a tax break. I think obscure laws like this exist to check the balance of power, but most people do not know about them because of that same reason.

>> No.17476047

>>17474254
How the hell would you prove that? It's not like there's any record or paperwork of when you began squatting there

>> No.17476235

>>17476047
I don't know. If I found a place and was serious about it I would look in to it more. A quick google of "California squatters rights" turns up this as a first result
>A squatter can claim rights to a property after residing there for a certain time. In California, it only takes 5 years of continuous use or maintenance for a squatter to make an adverse possession claim (CCP § 318, 325). When a squatter claims adverse possession, they can gain ownership of the property legally.
I would start from there and look up CCP 318 and 325 to see the specific wording. I think a large part of it is maintaining the property. Mowing the lawn taking out trash etc.

Agreed, kind of reminds me that you can be your own lawyer in certain cases. Of course not many people want to do that because you'd have to read up on a fuckton of laws and regulations depending on your case. But if you really wanted to save that insane lawyer pay you can in some cases.

...its a loss because if you have to potentially cover maintanence costs and rental revenue is consistently less than what you pay in mortgage costs because you price low like an idiot then...
You know what, nevermind. You're clearly trolling. If you're not, you should do what you're suggesting instead of complaining why others wont do it. If you think it's a good business model, take it to the bank and see what they have to say about supporting your retarded idea of still "at least having ownership of a house at the end of the day".

Don't put the bad holdover job in your resume. Say you took care of your mother/father when they were sick/broken legs, and that you took time to pick a new job to be discerning because you wanted a good career. Make up a story about your last job promising you overtime but didn't give it, idk. This shit isn't hard!

I managed a mobile phone store for three years including staff training and inventory control, basically what you'd expect, and was an admin assistant/receptionist for another company after the company that ran the store I worked at was bought out and changed to a different business.

During that time period I also worked a side gig as the lead editor for an electronics journalism website that got E3 invites and other such established industry benefits. I was laid off from the admin/reception job after the wages went up in my province (Alberta) and the company I worked for laid off 90% of its workforce, and I took a job working security in hopes I would be able to find something else.

I have been looking nonstop since then for over a year with nearly 20-30 different applications per day for jobs. No one has even given me an interview in that timespan, so I am not able to explain it away to a hiring manager.

God I would kill for that. Unfortunately I barely have any friends and those that I do have are people who are working in shit retail stores that aren't hiring. Zero connections, and even less ways of getting them seeing as how I have to work the fucking night shift and have no networking opportunities within my job itself.

Is it worth just ditching services like Indeed etc. and just old school walking around throwing resumes out? Dead serious, I can't even get fucking min wage liquor store work as it is.
