Nothing on that image indicates a scam. Node count has fallen because only approx. 5.5K of the 10K deployed nodes have so far updated their configurations to connect to the new discover server.

Development hasn't halted. Quite the opposite in fact. But they moved to a new repo last August (https://github.com/SkycoinProject).). Your chart is looking at the old repo.

Fact is Skycoin keeps pushing out new hardware and services on a regular basis.

Did any crypto project? None of them have much real world use yet.

Still early days for Skycoin, but the Skywire VPN/proxy is used by a lot of people, and there are a dozen or so CX games either completed or in development. You can play a couple of them online at skygamee.com/games

Plus there are a few projects launched on Fiber like SolarBankers, GLBrain and MDL.

This is more than most crypto projects have done.

Seems unlikely they'd have shot themselves. With altcoin prices so low they probably just figure it's not worth the effort to reconfigure for 50 bucks worth of SKY a month.

When the bear market ends and coin prices rise we should see more of the deployed nodes switch over to the new discovery server to get the rewards.

Yes it is. Given that Skywire currently uses SKY for payments, all payments going through a central control, Skycoin can freeze outputs for any address it wants, defeating the entire point of a decentralized network.

The whole point of CX is to be able to run dapps. Without consensus, they're just fucking apps written in a subpar language.

>Yes it is. Given that Skywire currently uses SKY for payments, all payments going through a central control, Skycoin can freeze outputs for any address it wants, defeating the entire point of a decentralized network.

Skywire would still work without payments, so no it's not actually needed. The payments are a nice incentive, but nobody cares if that part is centralized right now when it's so early in the rollout and basically just in a testing phase.

>The whole point of CX is to be able to run dapps. Without consensus, they're just fucking apps written in a subpar language.

Consensus has nothing to do with CX. You can run dapps without consensus. If your dapp incorporates some sort of payment structure in SKY or CH, then sure, consensus would be good. But it's not at that stage yet. Again, very early days and the current games are mainly proof-of-concept stuff that have no need for consensus.

Bottom line, yes, we're all looking forward to Obelisk eventually being released, but right now it's not required. The focus is on Skywire and CX.

Yeah, if Skywire hypothetically was out of testnet what would they be using? SCH and SKY. Let me know when it switches to an option of a payment method with consensus.

The whole point of CX is to be able to put relevant parts of the application on-chain. Having anything on-chain means that ideally you can consense on which parts of the chain are valid.

It's not very early days. As a software developer, setting up your initial environment to operate in is crucial. Consensus is a foundational cornerstone in what Skycoin wants to do, and because it has ignored this, is why developers do not take it seriously, thus the lack of activity.

Obelisk is on the back of the coin you probably have on your desk somewhere. It's literally the most important part of the project and you've let Brandon weasel out of delivering it after Chen's research paper got pulled.

They can't do everything simultaneously. I'm looking forward to Obelisk as much as anyone else, but I'm realistic about the number of components the project can focus on at one time. Skywire's target audience won't care if payments are centralized, as long as they're getting a cheap Internet service that government's and ISPs can't monitor or censor. People playing CX games also won't care. The only people who care are people who have spent the past few years obsessing over crypto, and that's not the target audience.

I think you mean non-fungible. And yes, the KittyCash wallets did indeed support the storage of non-fungible digital cats, albeit with masternode-based consensus rather than Obelisk. It's been on hiatus since the bear market forced the team to focus on higher priority parts of the project.

>>>17461977 (You)
>Again. Obelisk is foundational. You can keep building floor after floor of a shitty skyscraper, but it will collapse without these core precepts.

Poor analogy. A Skyscraper literally won't work without foundations. Whereas Skycoin components like the coin itself, Skywire, CX, Fiber all work fine with the current masternode-based consensus. Obelisk will be a nice future upgrade, but it's certainly not essential right now.

>You can see the project scope dialing back as development slows. The core audience doesn't care because they're not technically literate. Death spiral.

Pretty much every crypto project has been dialing back and slowing down over the past two years. Bear market. Many have actually stopped developing altogether. You can't really change the foundations of a skyscraper after it has been built. But it's easy to change Skycoin's consensus model after CX and Skywire have been rolled out. And in any case, Skywire and CX both work fine for now with masternode consensus.

>Skycoin has kind of released... a hardware wallet. And not even actual Skywire. And choked on SCH anything.

Right now it doesn't really matter if payment handling is centralized. Further down the line, yes Obelisk is definitely needed but realistically the current target audience for Skywire and CX won't care how the payments are managed as long they can get cheap Internet and play some cool games.

NYC meshnet is not about rebuilding stuff - it's about deploying nodes and testing antennas in a built-up densely populated environment. Other team members are testing antennas in rural areas.

Many people (including some of the people in charge obviously) under-estimated how long a project like this will take. But that's the same everywhere. I worked in IT and project management for many years and pretty much every project takes longer and costs more than initially expected. This problem is clearly exacerbated when the funds available to a project can rise 1000s of percent and then fall 99% within a couple of years.

And Skywire deployment needs to be thought of in decades, not months or years.
