I'm really confused about margin accounts, am I borrowing money? how do I pay it back?

No so if you’re asset of choice goes in the wrong direction, you’re account gets liquidated. Eg. you all in long btc at 50x with 10Kusd in your account. If it goes up 100usd, you make 5Kusd. If btc goes down by like 20usd, you loose 10Kusd.
