at the time they seemed extremely unlikely to 99% of people before becoming mainstream and user by normies. Crypto is still in this initial niche phase, the boom hasn't even happened yet. Also if you get into any field at a deep level you'll start to notice trends as they develop

Crypto's stated goal is to liberate finances from national banks etc. It will not accomplish this.

Crypto will "boom" when governments start using it to track transactions of their currency. In some limited sense this is also accomplished today--you might have noticed serial numbers on bills. Crypto extends the serialization of currency downwards to the smallest legal fraction of a dollar to the largest online transaction. Crypto will become another means of surveillance; it will not be a means of financial liberation.

You can turn a little profit on a game for relatively low upfront investment. What else could you do with your time after work that has value? I mean there are a couple of options, but video game development and app development are pretty low hanging fruit in terms of cash needed, all they require is time and ability to market them a little. But it is an unstable business built off of fandom, so if you make a little money off of video games but don't nail a fandom down that will market your game for you and diligently buy everything you put out, you've gotta treat it as basically a side job you are using to increase your income so that you can exit into something else. Like building up some savings that you can use to get an apartment, or start some other business. Video games as a get out of working ticket is extremely unlikely. Like, you are probably not going to make Stardew Valley. You can try, but your expectations should probably be a little lower and you should be betting on going into other things.

I think it's the next logical step when I look back at the way the internet has evolved from being a way of sharing static documents to the complex web app we interface today. it's stepped out from behind the desktop and is now something we carry in our pockets everywhere we go. it hasn't jumped into the real world yet. AR will create a new layer of internet between us and the world. smart glass will eventually be the display screen, be it wearable glasses or car windshields or whatever.

I actually really like this idea, I think you’re correct about the internet not having “jumped out” into IRL still. I think UI/UX design peaked at some point some years ago, and has currently settled into a lazy state of Good Enough-Ness where more development effort is put into the functionality of an app (and also whatever other literally irrelevant bullshit) & maintenance of the platform etc than the intricacies of how the interface looks & lets users interact.

My degree is in Electrical Engineering, I’m now a full-time software dev, and I wonder all the time about how I could combine the “real” (hardware) experience with the ethereal software side of computers/video games to take greater & greater advantage of peoples’ (yet-somewhat-untapped) ability to control software better.
