Yes. You can get these pills which dissolve in water. I can't remember the name but they protect the water for 20 years from stagnation diseases. You should be able to find them. Water is most important if you don't live near flowing water.

Try to get food grade plastic ones too. It shouldn't really be a problem as long as you don't stack like 400l of them on top of each other.
