More like 99%, there's about 8 to 10 million households in the US that have more than a million dollar in assets. And about 1700 people are joining the millionaire ranks every day.

However, survey respondents believed that 15 percent of all households fell into the millionaire category.

Name all 4.6 million of them.

Depends on you got the money and the laws where you reside.

in some USA states and countries, a will is public information.

If you created your own private business, then those numbers aren't out there.

If you wagecucked your way towards 1 mill, then its not.

People can only speculate based on what you have.

Trump might not even be a billionaire and not even he knows the true answer to that since tons of his money isn't liquid.

yeah this

also a million bucks is not a lot of money, it's very easy to find million dollar houses a that aren't sprawling mansions or complexes. like, a million in assets is still a lot, but it's not like you're in the stratosphere. it's a distinctly achievable goal for lots of people (though not all people, because life is unfair and some people start poor and stay poor since they never get any initial capital to do anything)

inflation being a thing also means that a million bucks OBJECTIVELY is worth less than it used to be

Sounds reasonable. Having a millionaire dollars in liquid net worth will get you about $40,000 a year in passive income. Sure, you can stop working and have your expenses covered, but you'll be living a modest lifestyle in a quiet neighborhood. It isn't anything like what being a millionaire in 1965 would get you.

In fact out of curiosity I calculated it. To hit the same status as a millionaire in 1965 today, you'd need 7.6 million dollars. That'd give you passive income around $300,000, though with that level of net worth you can probably hit more profitable ventures like partnerships and commercial/multi-tenant real estate. I'd say $300,000 a year would give you quite a lavish lifestyle.

What about keeping it a secret to everybody?
Like not even letting your wife and kids know you're rich while living a middle class lifestyle, but with the peace of mind and lack of stress, thanks to your secret safety net.

Would that be possible?

My dream would be to have a life like that, while living in a house I built so that it has a secret underground room almost as big as the entire lot, where I can do my hobbies alone while my family believes I'm at work.
Like a sort of batcave, but instead of fighting crime, I jerk off.

Kek I've actually thought about this multiple times.
The problem could be solved by having the cave far away from home, but it would be far more impractical than having it inside of it, since it wouldn't allow me to go in for a quick visit if I needed to.
Or, you could have it so the entrance is located in the bordering lot, so that I'd just need to go to a garage, swap cars, then come back to the nearby lot where the secret entrance is located.
I would also have another secret entrance inside my house for when I need a quick visit.

Another alternative is to have it underneath my company building (and if I don't have a company, then I make a fake one where I pretend to work).

Obviously that'd be too expensive and risky even for a billionaire, but it's my fantasy and I dream of whatever I want.

Make your money somehow and the set up a shitty home "consulting business." Make it look like u make okay money to your wife and actually have it hid somewhere. But if you want a shop to dick off in you just need like 50k and a lot outside of town. Park some equipment around and hang a sign that says not for hire. Not bad, but it would have to be completely private and secret, so maybe a hangar-like building or something similar would probably do the trick.

But the underground room would be ideal for most cases, and while more expensive, I'll never have either, so why not dream the best version?

If I were in the position to actually do something like that I would do what's realistic for my budget, so I'd end up with something more like your example.
