Thereare a few possibilities for curbing Mig’s possible role in causingbrain damage in SARS patients with central nervous system infection, according to lead author Jun Xu, PhD, of the Guangzhou Institute ofRespiratory Diseases and senior author Yong Jiang, PhD, of the KeyLaboratory of Functional Proteomics of Guangdong Province. “There mightbe some ways of controlling the release of Mig, such as specificinhibitors that interfere [with] the signaling pathways involved,” Dr.Jiang said. “Other approaches, such as neutralizing antibodies [and]specific binding peptides, could be tried to block brain damage inducedby Mig.”

Four to five percent of SARS patients treated at theGuangzhou Institute of Respiratory Diseases experienced central nervoussystem symptoms, said Dr. Xu; therefore, physicians need to be aware ofthe potential for brain infection when evaluating patients with thedisease. Immunosuppressive drugs should be administered carefully andon an individual basis, as they may allow amplification of the SARScoronavirus in the brain. “Superinfection” with other pathogens couldalso contribute to SARS’ harmful effects on the brain. “Physiciansshould pay more attention to the prevention of brain damage if [SARSpatients] are superinfected with other conditional pathogens,”according to Dr. Xu and Dr. Jiang.

Its a potential thing, in clinicals in china with results very soon, think it was rumored a fast track result announcement within 3 weeks.

They used it on the first usa case and he got better asap, N=1 though.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/02/20/early-trial-results-for-potential-coronavirus-treatments-expected-in-three-weeks-who-says.html

Preliminary results from two clinical trials testing potential treatments for the COVID-19 coronavirus are expected in three weeks, WHO says.

One trial combines HIV drugs Lopinavir and Ritonavir, while the other is testing U.S.-based biotech Gilead Sciences’ antiviral Remdesivir.

https://www.scmp.com/tech/science-research/article/3051820/chinese-trials-gileads-antiviral-drug-treat-coronavirus-still

Antiviral remdesivir is being trialled as a treatment for the novel coronavirus in 10 hospitals in Wuhan
Researchers have recruited more than 230 patients for the trials so far, short of the 760 targeted

At the press conference on Friday, Xu said in vitro tests of remdesivir so far have shown a “very good inhibiting effect” on the coronavirus, but added: “I am waiting for the results [of the clinical trials] just like everybody else; I don’t know more than anyone else does”.
The vice-minister added that Chinese authorities have been in touch with Gilead. “If the drug works well, putting the interest of the people as the priority, we will work with Gilead to find an appropriate way to supply the medicine,” he said.

>> No.17372604

>>17372593

In its statement on the matter, Gilead noted that the first US case of 2019-nCoV led to the administration of the drug for compassionate use after the Washington state patient developed pneumonia. In the Washington state 2019-nCoV case, physicians initiated treatment with intravenous remdesivir on day 7 of care based on the patient’s worsening clinical status. No adverse events were associated with the infusion.

VIX is already at 18, so there is some upside if there is a big-ticket panic item (real news reports that the virus came from Chinese lab, big spike in death numbers, or if the US shuts down travel).
On the other hand, if the indices recover or if things go down more gently, you could see VIX fall into the 15-16 range
I would suggest switching to SQQQ or something like that if you're bearish. Cashing out is also fine

anonymity means anyone can be anyone.
for example, you could just as easily be an autistic highschooler, and i warren buffet.
imageboards are useless for trying to find someone with "credentials" (although it happens from time to time by total accident).
the point of them is to be able to pass information around freely. even as unbearably censored/moderated as its become here in the past decade, its still one of the biggest sites for people from all over the world to come say whatever they want.
no fucking shit that kind of freedom goes both ways.

>I have a Master's in Accountancy with a minor in Finance. I work for a fortune 100 as a corporate accountant with a CMA and CPA

theres actually a lot of decent books and resources and whatnot in the OP. of course nothing to compare to a formal education, but its better than absolutely nothing at all. which is what most here wouldve gotten otherwise

but learning things alone is tough
even if anon isnt very helpful, he can be encouraging and make it much more fun
its not advice to put your shekels on, but its a good time if you dont take things too seriously

TL;DR
im not exactly sure why youre here desu

I went to school for economics and comp sci

The stock market, which has little to do with the economy of the nation, hasn't been driven by economic data or real market trends (I.e. what things are being made, what things are being sold, how many people are involved in making those things, where the raw inputs to make those things come from and their cost) in like 25 or 30 years

Its extra bad in that the nature of computer learning means algos don't learn how to beat the market they learn how to beat the algos because the algos are the market which means the fundamentals will keep becoming less and less important as the differential equations continue to refine their approximation not of markets but of market guessers

after getting chunked on SPCE overnight and wiping out a whole day SDGR profits, i came to the realization of a new proverb.
"when in doubt, diversify"
if the whole market is red and everything you look to buy looks like it's about to dip, don't go all in on a memestock, you know?
it's basic shit, but i really got tunnelvision on big greens, especially having such early success with SDGR. now my mentality is if i'm not at least 80% certain of a big move like i was with SDGR, then i should switch my mind into "Protect Profits" mode and spread that shit out across as much secure stuff as possible so that i'm at least taking a little green.
so yeah, feeling really fucking good coming out of this week.
learned a lot and am stoked to learn next week.

Mine:

1. Buy calls further out than a week
2. Buy calls for multiple companies/industries

A fellow leaf. I was tempted to use Scotia iTrade at first because it was my bank, but I went with Questrade instead because of the cheaper fee (iTrade is $10/trade too). Also the transfer is very easy, it's just a bill payment from your chequing account to your Questrade account, it just takes 1-2 days to process. If you want to start out with RBC for a short while then go for it, but if you are going to be doing many smaller trades you should go for a lower fee brokerage, the fees do add up, trust me.

Unfortunately Canada has nothing as convenient as Robinhood with zero fees, the best we can get is Interactive Brokers which doesn't let you set up an account without prior trading experience.
