I’ve only ever worked a dead end grocery job but I like the idea of starting my own business, particularly opening my own little bar.

Where should I start? How would I even know if it’d be worth it?

Try working at a bar first to learn how it works.

Do bars have a horrifically high closure rate like restaurants?

Every guy under 20 wants to open his own bar. Are you under 20 op?

>> No.17371332

Don't get discouraged by naysayers OP, but yeah like I said maybe you could work at a bar first, maybe that'd help you prepare to start your own.

this is good advice. you'll see what works, what doesn't work and how the cashflow(s) go. 6-12 months should be enough. try to work during big events (super bowl, silvester, ...) to learn how to handle it. observe your boss and coworkers well. how does he manage the staff? at which times do people steel? and so on. saves you a lot of trouble in the first place. not sure what types of cups, plates, and so on to buy? simply look what's there and check whether it's good or not. mimic the "winner" and try to improve his faults. what are the mpst ordered meal from the menu? countless things to learn. and it'll maybe fun to work knowing you're building the foundations of your own business.

Yes. Bars are closing daily in the UK because people just aren't out drinking as much any more, they'd rather do it at home where they can also have cocaine.

>>17371269
This. It is not easy to run a bar OP.

are you ready to commit yourself 24/7? don't have any grandiose ideas of leaving everything to some manager while you sit at home and occasionally crash the place and pour yourself free drinks? if you don't understand what I mean then keep working that dead end job you keep complaining about.

I was offered a bartending job where I usually drink but turned it down for a few reasons, but I really was interested. Maybe I’ll see if I can give it a shot.

And I in no way think that running a bar or any business would be easy in the slightest, I just want to know where to start.

you’d probably be better off offering some trendy overpriced food item out of a stall or truck

Britbongs sound cucked. I buy coke from a guy at my local bar whenever I want and snort it in the bathroom. The bar staff love us and would never even say anything about it

if you want to run a business you should work in that industry for a couple years. bar-back into bartender would be the place to start, usually bar-back is easy to get into because it's an entry low-skill position.

Not to mention that you get paid cash in hand every night, it can be pretty good pay compared to wagie shit
