Anyways, feelin' pretty good tonight. I haven't really lost anything major since I started investing around a month ago, trying to dip my pingus into options but most serious plays seem out of my price range for now. 21 and got one more semester until I graduate, going to get an internship at my wage-slave job hopefully and maybe roll into the management trainee program. I'm autistic but nice and in a state with not much opportunity for business administration graduates. Planning on going on a road trip along the east coast next vacay and scoping out places I would like to move to. Oh, bro, I'm not really the one to give tips, I've mostly been following my intuition. I'm sure there are many other anons who are better qualified to give advice. Stonks always go up so if you are invested in established companies I would always hold, I've been switching my positions pretty frequently to see where I am most comfortable, made small gains of ONTX because I recognized catalysts and sold before news just in case. Messed up with PLUG today as I sold during the dip, for a profit nonetheless, but I would have made more if my hands were stronger. I need to do more DD but between schoolwork, work, and the gf I just feel like I don't have time. That's probably just an excuse and I hope I will overcome it and really start to do some due diligence instead of just going off gut feelings. TMDX seems smart to me, and the shill sounds like he is a good guy and knows what he is talking about, again that's just my intuition and gut feelings so don't take my advice if you're not ready to lose everything. SALT seems like a good play just based on the fact they beat earnings and just have to keep it up through corona and increase profitability. Honestly, if you have the cash semiconductors seems like the best play. All in all, just browse SMG and use common sense to find out what has the best chance of succeeding, that's what I've been doing and although it takes some time to filter through the tripfag bs it seems to be working.

thats not something you have to worry about unless you plan to sell covered calls. which i doubt you are doing as a rookie. you will get the dividends just from owning the ETF. look up their dividend schedule, its usually 4 per year, once given at each quarter. you have to own the ETF by a certain date to be eligible for that quarters dividend (otherwise people would just buy the day before dividends are due)

covered calls means you buy 100 shares of the ETF, then sell an option to buy the stock. since you can now back up the option with physical shares, thats what covered means. if you were selling option without the shares under your ownership, thats how idiots bankrupt themselves and get kicked off their broker. dont sell shit you dont own if you cant back it up with the cash.

anyway they are just telling you this because some investors like the strategy of collecting on dividends WHILE holding the contact option to buy shares for eventual sale down the road.

for example, you write a covered call option with expiration of november 1 of this year. you collect in the dividend of those 100 shares during spring and summer, then sell off your call option before november

Think about it like this, an options price is and strike price are that equilibrium where the seller thinks he won't get assigned, hence he gets to keep the premium, and the buyer thinks despite paying that premium he'll still end up with more money than he started with at expiration. It's a tug of war and the equilibrium point is in constant flux. Yeah I am surprised data on renaissance is even available. I read Zuckerman's biography on Simon's recently (it honestly was pretty dry but I was super into the content). He basically has a fuck ton of classified alternative data (and tons of traditional) that he's been collecting for years being picked apart by his algos.
