stupid perspective to have. if not this halving, then the next one, if not that one, the one after that. it will get exponentially harder to generate new bitcoin until the last bitcoin is eventually mined... add that to the fact where bitcoin will eventually get locked in cold wallets as keys get lost or people forget about small stores of it and you have another source of deflation. its not like cash where if you drop a wallet someone can grab it off the street. Its not like a bank where if you forget your password you can have a customer service agent in india reset your account. whatever bitcoins current price is right now, it will undoubtedly increase in the future, and due to that, all other relevant alt-coins will increase in value around it. It's not exactly rocket science - they're competing with an artificially propped up, inflationary 'fiat' currency known as USD ...

looks like halving signals the previous market high as the new floor to a catapult upwards.

Everyone knows what happens after. Miners can’t afford to mine, look for more profitable chains, someone experiences chaindeath

youre forgetting the human element retard. what do you think happens when the MSM has a segment on their morning talkshow about the halvening? what do you think happens when some retarded pop-sci youtube makes a 10 minute video explaining it around the time frame?

the halvening on its own may be 'priced in' but theres also an organic response to it as well - and thats what was responsible for the 2017 bullrun... will it happen again? who can say... but its very possible.

you fucking moron. the halvings dont correlate to a jump in price. it's usually a year or so afterward, that the reduction in selling pressure becomes felt in the market. get the fuck off of this board and go back to browsing articles on Coinbase

Retail market isn’t going to be the main driving force. The point is really that bitcoins price isn’t based off of stock to flow but actual utility of the chain. The idea of digital gold is a sales campaign for the fool.

Reduction in supply only increases value if

1). Demand increases
2). Stays the same
3). Decreases, but less than supply decreases.

It's entirely possible that

4). Demand continues to decrease faster than supply decreases, which would decrease price.

TLDR

BTC is probably fucked.

Bitcoin isn’t a stock to flow model based off of its “store of value”, nor a cost to produce a Bitcoin from mining. That’s not how the system was intended, thus the halvening isn’t meant to be a price pumping situation. It exist to create competition amongst the miners.

Bitcoin’s value is from utility is within the systems that are built on top of the protocol layer, that’s what people have gotten wrong about the system since it’s inception.
