Feel like this is bait since coding seems super saturated , but I'll bite. What language should someone start with? Someone told me python

literally every single website on the internet says that software devs are in demand in 2019 and 2020 as one of the top job prospects in the world

If i refer a software dev to my current employer, i get cut a check for $3000.
A level one software dev, not even a level 2 or 3.

"coding is super saturated" is a meme put out there by losers who don't want to try and by programmers who don't want more competition, kek.

school is 100% not necessary.
what most employers care about is experience and skill

the experience part will be hard for your first gig, but as long as you have a reasonably impressive github repo you should be able to slide your way into an interview, where you can showcase your knowledge
personally, id recommend learning Python, Java, or a C flavor for software development
Python is far and away the most in demand.

Alternatively, you can learn HTML/CSS/JavaScript (a flavor of javascript too, like VueJS) if you want to go into web development. in my opinion software dev demand is greater than web dev demand, but each would almost guarantee a job with 80k+ salary starting in America

as far as where to begin, i would recommend poking around the immense number of resources available on the internet, via google
Im a security engineer at my company and dont code very much at all, but i am pretty good at scripting with python and powershell. I used codecademy to get started and build a foundation from nothing a few years ago.
but like I said, you'll want to get a good foundation and understanding and then start working on projects and filling up a github repo, to the point where you have functional software that demonstrates your capabilities. My first "real" project using Python was a shitty cryptocurrency trading bot, because I wanted to get my feet wet with APIs and I have always been interested in math/algorithms.

Get a reasonable foundation for a language of your choice, and then begin working on a starter project. Then slowly work your way up to more advanced projects. Google is your best friend throughout this entire time, do not underestimate the amount of free resources you can find.

I qualify for a 100% free Bachelor's and Master's degrees through Vocational Rehabilitation because I'm disabled.

I know most college degrees are memes since you can learn/teach yourself but since they're free, I'm going to do it.

What are good subjects to study that are in demand?

Coding is boring as fuck. It's just what most autists on 4chan do because of autism. Sell something or make an affiliate site
