Sold the ICO too early and never bought back in. I sitll think that the valuation is only so high due to the lack of proper competition and that the market of decentralized oracles will be quite saturated in the long term. I also don't see why the token can't be abstracted out and being replaced by the native token of the blockchain the oracle is serving.
That being said, it's doing an impressive run and the team indeed seems to be very well connected, and in the end it will benefit the entire ecosystem when they are successful.

Don't worry about it though. Next to zero link holders are going to make money for the same reason iota and xrp holders won't, they are waiting for non-speculative money from future adoption, not realizing the token design makes that impossible. Possibly they are even still buying more.

This is a classic example of a person who hasn't done proper research.

One of the guiding principles of Ethereum is a "no features" approach: https://github.com/ethereum/wiki/wiki/design-rationale

As for competition: they are so far ahead at this point that at the very least they will be dominant in the market for the foreseeable future.

What market? The oracle market is not worth anything. Everyone is just going to choose the cheapest data provider, driving prices to the ground.
The single most used oracle is the makerdao oracle, all chainlink has is partial use by synthetix.

>> No.17263855

>>17263759
Well sure because it's being built out. They're building a network of oracles.
All oracles/data providers are going to join it because there is no reason for them not to. Chainlink does not compete with them.

Why is it going to be more expensive than through in-house oracles? It's going to be cheaper as most data will be provided to multiple parties.
Furthermore, clearly contract architects are going to prefer a network that has a far greater degree of decentralisation and has layers of security.

Given how durable xrp is I wouldn't count on it happening any day soon.
Sergey cloned Ripple's token model. Xrp locked for nostro accounts = link locked by nodes. It's not a source of value in both cases, but it was a smart move - as Ripple proved many people think it is.

Also why is tsla so fucking overvalued?
It's going to take years before things make sense anymore.
>>17264225
Because nobody has link in the first place, they have either eth or some stablecoin, and you have to exchange that to link in the request transaction, incurring a 0.3% fee.
>a far greater degree of decentralisation
it doesn't have any. You can either trust chainlink and choose their kyced nodes (full centralization) or choose nodes manually. If you choose nodes manually, what's the added value of chainlink? You can as well choose nodes elsewhere if they are cheaper.

>> No.17264448

>>17264297
I think you really just need to zoom out and look at the big picture. Most of the future market isn't going to have ETH, DAI or LINK. They're going to buy with USD.
As for KYCed nodes being centralised - do you really believe that? Many of the entities providing this data are validators across multiple networks, providing incorrect data would imperil their entire business.
Chainlink is ultimately a security question and they have essentially reframed the decentralisation paradigm: how much decentralisation do you need? Who do you need it from?

>> No.17264488

>>17264448

Lastly, Chainlink are moving away from the certification. Third party Certification and Reputation systems have been and are being built currently. These will be "layered" to provide additional surety for contract creators.
