To the guy asking about compounding your money with stocks from the last thread. This video explains it all.

Stocks are the vehicle doing the compounding, and the money you are pumping into your stocks is what is getting compounded. The more money you pump into stocks, the larger the result of compounding will be.

I don't really know how it's possible to fuck up stocks just from looking at them. It seems like the dips on most big companies only last for a few months and stocks are a decade long wait, so it feels like as long as you buy during normal stocks during a low period there's no way you can fail. Of course, I'm a brainlet so I probably have it completely wrong. I don't know about investing at the moment though since it seems like stocks are all incredibly high at the moment and I feel like the second I start buying stocks there will be a massive drop and I'll get fucked.

If you're new, there are no such thing as stupid questions.

On a short time horizon, there my be a small dip/fluctuation due to the election no matter who the candidates are or who is elected.

Over a long time horizon (which is what you should be training your brain to operate on) it will be a minuscule blip on the radar. Dollar Cost Averaging (buying on a fixed schedule) further dissipates any effects said theoretical dip/fluctuation may have on your total value of your returns and holdings.

If SOXL isn't at all time high by the end of this or any other week, you thank the gods for their grace in allowing you to buy more at a discount. If you are already all in you start selling valuables. If you have literally every single last dime in SOXL then you start rolling shares over to out of the money call options. If it corrects more roll more shares. If it keeps going roll the calls themselves until the inevitable rise. Then rest easy as multimillionaire status is assured.

Okay. Okay okay okay. K. Forget every idea you have about stock trading and start fresh:

The very basic standard procedure involved in stock trading is to purchase shares under expectation that those shares will increase in value. You own those shares once you've bought them. You can sell said shares on the market during market hours. The going price at the time may be higher or lower than the price you bought them. You want to wait until that price is higher. To sell shares, you go to your brokerage account, click on the stock, type in how many of your shares you want to sell. You have the option to sell at the market price (the highest current bid) or set a limit price you're unwilling to sell less than. If you set a limit, your sell may or may not go through if the stock does not climb back up to that price.

Helpful? Think of shares as physical items if it helps. You bought two apples for a dollar, now you want to sell them for more than you paid. Maybe you can and maybe you can't. It depends hiw everybody else on the markets feels about the value of apples at the time.

Also that thing you said about investing: investing is not a second step. You don't buy shares and then invest them in some second process. 'Investing' is just a term used to describe buying shares of a company and waiting however long it takes for the value of the shares to increase. Typically investing is used to describe people who hold on to their shares for lengthy periods of time (years). This is as opposed to 'traders' who seek to flip their shares for profit more quickly.

Your money goes in to the account you use to buy and sells shares. When you open a brokerage account you will have to transfer money from your ordinary bank account in to it. The money from selling shares goes in to your account immediately and you can buy other stocks right away. However, you may not withdraw this cash from your account until the settlement date, which is (i think?) something like three business days after the transaction. I forget as it's been a long time since i last pulled cash out if my trading account.

Don't listen to anyone in here, especially not tripfags and penny stock shills (these groups overlap a lot). Don't trust me either. Google a bit or ask around irl and you'll realize this is common knowledge:
If you're not interested in learning how to evaluate companies and stocks, ETFs are a good option.
In fact, that's an understatement. Just dump as much money as you can every month in literally any ETF whatsoever and you'll do better than most "investors" except you'll have to do zero work for it.

Yeah, TECL has done well lately but keep in mind the coronavirus has hit semiconductor companies particularly hard since they have to manufacture and ship physical products most of which come from China. TECL is loaded with both hardware and software companies so it's naturally going to outperform SOXL in the current environment. That said, SOXL has historically outperformed TECL, and for reasons I've outlined in the pasta I wrote, I believe this will continue to be the case. Think of it like this, SOXL is depressed at the moment but that will not remain the case. When this nCoV thing blows over we will explode back to our rightful place on the top of the tech ETF pantheon. The price is low. That's when you buy. Selling now and buying TECL would be precisely the opposite

I find it somewhat ridiculous that the current 'price' of a stock can be set by someone buying ~ 100 shares. If it's been trading below average all day with a volume of hundreds of thousands, it certainly isn't 'worth' a two dollar premium because some idiot after market close decided it was. Then again, this probably isn't the fault of the graph as much as the common interpretation of it.

It did up until the coronavirus situation which for obvious reasons is an atypical market environment. I wouldn't base a long-term decision between TECL and SOXL on what's been happening the last few weeks. All that said I like TECL and if you're more comfortable there then by all means load up. You'll make out either way. Obviously I'm a bit more bullish on SOXL in the time frame relevant to my situation (next couple of decades) but if SOXL didn't exist TECL would be my second choice.

What about if I buy a call and I sell to close before the expiration date, say two weeks before it expires. Does that mean that if the new buyer of that option exercises the option, I could be assigned?

>Have you considered swing trading SOXL?
Yes sir and I do. I trade three markets and move money back and forth between them as they ebb and flow. I have a few hundred thousand in bitcoin that I've been selling lately to take advantage of the corona-dip though I probably won't be putting anything back there unless crypto gets a lot more impressive soon. I trade futures too, mostly the e-mini ES and have been doing big things scalping the 1 minute though, again, I probably won't be pulling much cuz it's easy to assume too many contracts and get in trouble so being massively funded is a must. SOXL gets my bitcoin sell money and I ratchet up further and further. I guess not swing trading per se cuz I don't sell very much SOXL only buy more on dips. When all my bitcoin money is in it though I'll start selling some and buying back on dips.
>>17178791
It's my experience picking individual stocks from a group as stellar as what you'll find in the SOXL ETF is almost impossible. I mean they're all great with similar fundamentals. The biggest semiconductor memes right now are AMD and NVDA if you want to try your luck but my suggestion is to get the whole list from the Van Eck site and try to get a good mix of everything. If you have access to options you can structure spreads that will get you any leverage you want then just rebalance manually. It's not too hard.

Consider selling SPCE and picking up TSLA in its place. I think it's only a matter of time until people realize that they're still a long way off from commercial flights, which they said they would do in 2014, and there's going to be limited profitability with their seat prices because they underestimated how much a flight was going to cost them. In comparison, TSLA is already profitable, at least quarterly, and it is growing rapidly.

The retarded millionaire income is not enough to sustain their business, $250,000 a seat seems like a lot but it isn't when their launch costs are so high. For example, $1700 per kg is a good price for commercial launches to space, and that's bulk cargo on rockets that can afford to explode. SPCE isn't just space tourism, its hypersonic flight across the world. US to China will be 5 hours instead of 13. London to India will be 4 hours instead of 10. He will be catering to the super wealthy, who all fly all the time everywhere. Hes had buyers for years, and is now going to open up more slots. They've already gone to space in 2018, and thier first commercial flight is THIS JUNE. The market cap is currently only 4 billion, if you caompare that to any other new age tech company (Shopify, Uber, Tesla) thats LITERALLY NOTHING. Its going to go at LEAST 10 times in the next few years. Get the fuck in NOW before its $200 a share! Theres your fucking DD.

I'm not sure if there's a name for my investment ideology, but we are entering a new era.
Consider this:
Take a look at the American stock market, the entire history, what do you see? Simply put, it grows exponentially, even if it goes bad.
Now consider fact 2:
This is JUST AMERICA. What about the rest of the world? What happens when those companies are in their own stock markets?
Then consider all the tools America has created to control the stock market, and those implemented in markets across the world.
THEN consider automation revolution, the automatic driving truck will revolutionize trade across the world, we will officially enter a new golden age.

Now this conclusion will sound a bit crazy, but the American market will enter a phase "infinite growth." This will mark the start of a new type of stock market structure. "Old stocks" will become the realm of millionaires, billionaires, and trillionaires. The new market will deal in "fractional" or "low class" shares and index/mutual-like funds that will replace what normal people would trade (like stocks today). Where the "super rich" control all the shares and basically lease rights of their stocks to brokerage firms to trade on the "lesser/standard market."

But anyway, this will happen probably within 100 years, so make sure you buy now.

Just let it ride my friend. You will soon be in style. Tell you what.. first suit is on me. Lobster and crab at the Joe's Crab Shack will be my treat.

There's no such thing as a "normal dividend"
It depends on the company, on the sector, on the stage of their development.

If you were investing in a brand new company with a lot of room to grow, would you rather them pay you a dividend, or spend that money growing the company, making their company a better investment, and likely to increase the price of their shares dramatically when the analysts and institutions decide they want to invest in the future of the company after their successful efforts?

And the second part of your question reads like nonsense to me. First, if you reinvest the dividends, you'll get more dividends because you'll own more shares (or a fraction more shares if you don't own very much or the dividend yield is small). This is what causes the compounding gains. Those dividends buy more stock which pays more dividends that buy more stock, on and on. Second, you're not "making back" your money unless the company tanks. If it goes up in share value, you didn't lose anytthing, so there's nothing to make back. You just sell it when you want and you have your money back.

I didn't realize the amount you get from dividends depended on how many shares you owned. I thought it was just a flat rate that was minuscule.

Damn, I unironically made it. I can’t believe it.

My free gift stock with my Robinhood signup was: you guessed it, SPRINT. I sat on my 1 share of S for years. It did nothing, and they kept saying “teehee, we gonna merge senpai, don’t worry teehee.”

I stared at that little tease every day. Finally, all that patience has paid off! My profit as of today is $3.17, making my TOTAL profit a gut punching $8.10 (on account of me getting the stock for free). Damn, feeling invincible bois. I think I’m gonna cash out tomorrow and get myself a Double Double meal. Ima even upgrade my drink to a size bigger.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSS!!!

I enjoy shitposts like these.
They're entertaining reads inbetween the bouts of burning money, smoking money and shreading money I do.
Sometimes when I feel very crazy, I'll take my cheese grater, I'll shred my 10's and 20's (I'm not MADE out of money) and i'll make a fine dust.
Then, I'll snort that dust and pass out for 3-6 hours. I wake up in a pool of blood. I haven't taken the trash out in weeks. This is where I die.

Then I wake up.

No. If you buy an option and sell it again it doesnt change the nature of the contract. So you're not liable for buying then selling calls or puts. Its only when you sell contracts is when your liable. And to close out one of those trades you just buy the same exact option that you sold and they cancel out.

I suggest you look into what Baker Bros have been buying as they seem to have been doing very well lately.

I haven't found the best website to do this with yet, so do some of your own looking around, let me know what you find.

Beigene seems to be a big investment of theirs, I'm a little intrigued, but it looks chinese.
