I need some tax evasion advice. I was paid 20k as an independent contractor on the books over the last 2 years. 5k 2 years ago, and 15k this last year. I filed my taxes but I didn't tell the IRS about it. What the fuck is going to happen to me? Any way I can get around not paying the taxes?

Nothing will happen because the IRS is extremely understaffed. Mostly they go after poor people who try to claim tax credits and small businesses.

I'm leaning towards rolling the dice and just not paying it. I don't know what the repercussions are if I get caught though. Would I just have to pay it or would I get added fines?

If you have a 1099 then the irs has that 1099. They know you've under reported income.

You may have lucked out because they are understaffed but i would count on that. If they come asking, you're looking at interest and penalties. Also you owed self employment tax

Why do people think they can win against the IRS?

THE IRS HAS THEIR OWN COURTS!
YOU CAN"T WIN

Do I pay taxes on bitcoin I received via gaiaonline's cash points filling in surveys valued at .75 cents at the time?

Just file an amended return. The IRS will work with you if you owe back taxes. If they think you are evading taxes though you'll be fucked (revoking passport, freezing bank accounts, audits, etc.)

Thats the worst case scenario and that applies to actual money launderers. There are three target areas for IRS.

1. Poorfags under 20k claiming free returns (Lousiana/Kentucky fags)
2. "I live in NY and have a $60k job but I have 15 houses that I rent to my Albanian friends for cash and spend about $150k in expenses
3. Literal morons who make 400k+ a year but get caught trying to jew the system
