Been a while since we've had a general for fapp on /biz/, so we have some catching up to do!
Development is still going strong! We've come long way over the past year - from just collectible FLOWERs, to breeding unique strains, and now to planting, growing, & breeding with other player's FLOWERs in a game world.
Performance optimization patch is days away; items, harvesting, & crafting are in development and will be released in the patch to follow (~1-2 months).
Hope everyone had good times with family over the holidays & a happy New Year.

Flowerpatch is a browser-based cannabis farming & Ethereum crypto-collectibles MMORPG in development. Players can plant & breed their cannabis FLOWER cards (ERC721 tokens) in a vast game world.
Breeding enables players to create new & unique cannabis FLOWER strains by crossing their own strains together, or with strains from other players planted throughout the game world.
Breed Fee Sharing is now live! Earn a portion of the breeding fees from other players when they breed with your cannabis FLOWERs.

Here's my gripe with "blockchain gaming" in general

Why should I give a shit about "actually owning" my in game items? Versus the traditional method where my items are stored on a "centralized" (gasp! the horror) server owned by the game company or whatever.

The hackernoon article tries to make it out to be this awesome amazing thing and I just don't give a shit, and neither will most people. I don't care if my precious CS:GO skins are technically owned by Steam or whatever the fuck.

Like hey, your 420 weed game is cool and everything but I don't care about being the "real owner" of weed plants in your blockchain weed game, any more than I would care about owning weed plants in a non-blockchain weed game.

Overall I agree with you that decentralization isn't a big selling point for having crypto assets.

That said, for us, a lowkey indie gaming company, integrating into the bigger ethereum ecosystem gave us a lot of instant wins:

1. No need for any sort of login system, people can just sign in using their eth wallets

2. Breeding & Breed fee sharing: without being a money transmitter. Thanks to smart contracts, we can allow for flower owners to get paid when someone breeds with their flowers without actually touching any of the money at any point. Steam wouldn't be able to pull this off the way they do things now.

3. 3rd party projects can incorporate our assets thanks to standardization (free market flower trading on opensea is a good example)

4. And visa versa! Recently we implemented a patch that allows for in-game drops of other projects' NFTs. >>17159688 Pic related

5. All of the of the other network-effect related benefits that come with being part of this network.

i agree, a lot of this is only starting to be possible now thanks to the ethereum ecosystem maturing. All of that being said, the majority of the game itself is built using "traditional" web tech.

that's the plan -- over time your flowers will "mine" SEED and NUG tokens -- you receive them when you harvest your flowers. SEED will be a standard erc20 token, openly tradeable, and you'll be able to redeem NUG for real cannabis at partnered dispos.

You can find our roadmap on the homepage.

1) Harvesting & Crafting gameplay -- we want to complete the loop of planting your flowers in-game to harvesting them for rewards, to crafting new items to help you grow flowers faster.

2) Sacrificial Altar smart contract -- "Sacrifice" two NFTs and receive one random NFT from the pool. Periodically we will put extra rare NFTs in the prize pool to keep things interesting. This will help people with a ton of super shitty NFTs have some fun while getting rid of garbage.

3) NUG & SEED token

4) Partnerships with dispensaries to redeem NUG for cannabis + more game-related partnerships such as claiming NFTs with an in-store purchase.

We will keep evolving the project indefinitely, as long as we have a fanbase to support us. The long term vision involves complex crafting trees, automation systems (ex worker golems), regular expansions, new worlds, and perhaps support for custom mods and private worlds. One of our development principles is to stay flexible and listen to the desires of our community
