Wrong question. It should be: "What would Ethereum gain by having a pure mined currency native to it?"

I'll only say Vitalik has listed a native currency (non-gas token) on Ethereum as a top priority in response to a tweet from Elon Musk. Tyler Winklevoss also likes the idea of a decentralized currency on Ethereum.
