Hey guys, I'm a wagie that needs some answers from some dudes who know their stuff. Basically, I work at an amusement park in Ohio and I want to know if the company I work for owes me hella money or if they're in their legal rights to cuck me and my fellow associates. We work late April through like mid August, with potential to work weekends in September and October; we also have opportunities for promotions, and yet we are somehow classified as seasonal workers, so the company is (allegedly) allowed to cuck us out of overtime and holiday pay, despite the fact that we are allowed to cap out at 60 hours a week. What's going on here? Are they really allowed to do this? Any advice (aside from "get a real job") would be great.

Oh we're also technically able to work in I think late November through December but that might technically count as a different job even though it's literally the same shit for the same company

I have no clue if this is relevant or not but shift times can be from 9:15am to 3:45pm with one 30 to 45ish minute break, 3:45pm to 10:30pm with the same break time but can also run until like 11:00 for the shit we have to do after closing, a double with one break for the open and one break for the close, and an 11:45am to 8:00pm shift with one break, not sure if that matters though

this is a question for a lawyer, they'll listen to what you have to say just in case there's money in it.

but most likely you're fucked. Your employer talked to lawyers too

Well we're probably all fucked anyway since we're too pussy to unionize or go on strike (even though doing the latter would shut down the entire park until they caved to our demands) and we're lookin at YEARS of potentially lost overtime pay for some of us so I'm not expecting anything to come of it or for any of us to actually do shit about it but I'd just like to know if it's even an option or not

I worked at cedar point one summer. Worst summer of my life. I guess follow through with it if you’re a real go getter but my advice is get the fuck out ASAP. Also buy link

like I said, a lawyer will listen to your question for free and tell you right off the bat if you have a case or not. They love it when wealthy employers break laws.

I'm actually at Kings Island, I've heard CP gets 70 hour weeks, I'd dive into Lake Erie with a bug zapper if that was me

Also at least CP guys can have their phones on them, us KI ride ops can't even have them on break, it's ass, but at least we finally get $10.25 an hour as opposed to the shitty $8.25 I started at in 2017
