1. SBUX is profitable, NWL is not

2. SBUX payout ratio around 50, NWL is over 100%

3. SBUX 5 year dividend growth rate was 23%, NWL 5 year is 9%, but the dividend isn't safe and it has been cut in the past. SBUX yield on cost my surpass NWL's yield only after a few years of holding

4. SBUX is a world class company. Its the first public company when people think of coffee and it is run extremely well.

I don't yield chase. Many of my stocks have low div yields but high div growth (COST, V, SBUX, AAPL, MSFT etc). I offset it with slower growing, but higher yield companies like LEG, T, KO and some REITs like IRM.

Buying great companies at fair or undervalued prices with lower dividend yield but high dividend growth is better than buying OK companies with high dividends
