Well, the thesis is not about the direct stock price movement. In the case of sava, it's the success of their phase2 trial, and a market cap about half a bil. Sava just went up because directors bought out of the blue, but there is nothing new now which you couldn't know when the price was 1.5. I am speculating though that they want to avoid dilution for additional funding, and this warrants a 2x increase.
In galt's case the thesis is that it's practically a wonderdrug with potential market easily over 10bil, once it is approved for few key indications, and is now less than 200mil market cap. So we will be wrong when it turns out that the drug is useless, or it's not a 10-15 bagger from these prices. The buyout part was always a little speculative, especially the timing, but my thinking was end of q1, or after their trial is finalized. We'll see soon i hope.
Also, with sava, keep in mind that they do not know why the target of their drug is modified in the first place, and it is kind of an issue for the far future. I liked it because i think this modification is caused by the herpes virus, but they do not mention anything anywhere along these lines. However in the science behind galt, everything falls easily into place, and papers keep coming out by the day

Just check some recent papers on galectin-3 inhibition. The company doesn't say much. Outside of nash and fibrosis, it's the key modulator of tumor microenvironment and metastasis. There is also fibrosis in heart failure, so the galt drug is beneficial. Galectin-3 levels can be readily used as prognostic markers in most of these cases. There's much, much more, check the papers, really. The nash indication is the least interesting, they just go with it for reasons, and they don't have cash fot anything else. Cancer trials are ongoing on behalf of 3rd party and galt just supplies the drug, so not much is known about that.

Not really, it might be problematic in the long run. The phase2 is about a 1 month treatment only, and it will show improvement. But certainly won't cure alzheimer's in a single month, so how should the drug be given longitudinally? Just keep going forever? Could be a solution, but it's not easy to tell what happens. Keep monitoring blood biomarkers and check with their test, then decide to dose for a month or not, and check again later? This would be safe, for sure, but maybe the constant dosing is better. But what if the constant dosage turns for the worse after a year?
These are hard questions to answer i think, and the key somewhat lies in the working mechanism.
Galt is much easier, that's just a waiting game. The drug has already proven, however the previous ceo managed to make it look like it doesn't, and now no one believes in it. Very absurd. At least it's cheap exactly because of this.
