I know this will sound dumb but how do I do stuff in my corporate office job, that isn't part of my normal responsibilities, that will seem promotion worthy?

I have some vague things dreamed up, but ultimately I feel like in trying to do anything I will just be embarrassed by the friction that comes with interacting with others while admitting you know little. So for example, I am thinking of talking to a new supplier about getting a cheaper service for my company but I don't know what the exact technical specifications of the service are, or whether my boss thinks renewing with the current supplier is a formality, etc. At some point asking others a lot of questions means that they're kind of doing the hard work for you. And similarly with anything that seems big.

It seems that the alternative to that is to be a networker, work on pointless committees and diversity initiatives, give pointless speeches

Start sucking the dick of your boss. After ingesting approximately 5 liters of his spunk, you will be promoted.

You start being fake and act like you enjoy wasting your time there. Help your Co workers but make sure it's visible. Ask how to make your managers life a little easier.

Don't be your boss's friend, be the friend of the person you boss calls boss.
