Alright, so multiplications work kind of like this:
Leveraged ETFs double or triple the return from an underlying asset, like oil or gold or the S&P500.
It's 10 dollars, it's a triple returns ETF and the underlying asset goes up 25%. You just made 75%, or 7.50 on every share.
Now it's 17.50, and the underlying asset goes down 20%. Goes down 60%. That means it's multiplied by .4 (17.50 * .4 = 7), and it goes to 7 dollars a share.

NOW! Imagine you held just a x1, normal ETF. 10 dollars, goes up 25%. 2.5 dollars on every share, the price of it is 12.5.
So price is 12.5, then it loses 20%. Guess what, the price of the underlying asset goes back to 10 dollars. Because 12.5 * .8 = 10.

THAT is decay.

But there are different styles of traders.
>Day traders
>Hold stocks for 6 hours
>Long Con Boomer
>Buy Shares and wait 30 years till they retire
>Swing traders
>Hold a stock for a day or ten and then move on

Most people here are swing traders who have a few long term stocks, I suppose. Depends on your style.
Some hold 10 stocks to diversify, some hold 4 so they can have a close eye on these four and read all the news about each of them.

I generally buy 3/4 for swing trading and maybe 1/2 options for report days.

This is it lads. This is where it goes asymptotic. It's not about that mortality, it's the amount of economic disruption.
There's 52 business weeks in a year, if Mr. Shekelberg has to shutter for 2 weeks, that's a potential minus ~3.8% of potential revenue for the year. And Mr. Shekelberg still has to pay for your stupid benefits, he has equipment that depreciating daily, property on rent. etc. And that's just 2 weeks.

Speaking of volatility, there is something important that will sound obvious but I don't think people consider this enough when choosing stocks: there is a Buffett (I think?) quote about past performance not being indicative of future performance. That's correct, however, near term, say last six months, volatility IS indicative of near term future volatility regardless of direction that manifests in. This means high volatility stocks can be assumed to continue to be highly volatile for near future. High volatility is greater risk/reward ratio but also more challenging to trade successfully as you may not receive any warning before things do a u-turn and turn your profitable trade in to a loser.

I start with $10. Asset goes down 25%, I have $12.5. Asset goes up 25%, I have 9.38.

I have to price in taking in this decay into the ETF I choose, but these are very drastic changes. What I meant by simulations how much does this cost me over a year period of low / regular / high volatility.

I'm looking to risk some money on a bet that the market will be much lower "sometime" in the next two years. The opportunity cost of this trade for me is only weighed against holding cash.

Quick rundown:
>The drug is promising in NASH, cancer, and a host of other indications and yet is at 150 mil market cap
>Richard Uihlein is the board chairman and is a billionaire as well as a gigantic Republican campaign donor to the point that there are scare articles about him
>Both Uihlein and Czirr, owner of 10X Fund, which is 30% (I think) or so total ownership of GALT, each of those guys wants to sell the company or partner
>They employ a strategic advisory company called Back Bay Life Science Advisors which specializes in deal making such as company mergers and acquisitions
>The current market cap is a freakshow of bullshit happening from their current CEO and CFO cratering the price by selling almost all their shares when it was around $9 and then the switch to an adaptive trial from a traditional one which took it from $4.50 down to $2.70 now
>The market took an adaptive trial as a bad thing even though its only better. All trials should be adaptive trials now. And it is also what Big Pharma wants as of the last few years.
>A few months ago they made changes to their share structure to make all preferred stock very easily convertible to common stock. A merger of a company means buying all the common stock so it all has to be accounted for and all current shareholders would rake in the money.
>They went on a PR and patent waving spree in December in which they published in the Journal of Gastroenterology and plead their case to some media.
>They have barely any employees and they are all old as fuck. Likely they all want to move on.
>They all gave themselves huge bonuses and already are entitled to quite a bit of shares that would immediately vest on a merger
>If Uihlein wants campaign cash this year for heading into the election then he bought over 20 million dollars worth back in mid-2019 at 4.28 which a merger would get him enough to possibly fund a few state campaigns by himself in addition to helping Trump
>GALT is a meme world champion

Coronavirus alert for hundreds of passengers on Melbourne flight

Authorities are scrambling to contact more than 150 passengers who were on a flight from Melbourne to the Gold Coast after a man on the plane was diagnosed with coronavirus.

Tigerair is contacting all passengers on flight TT566 from Melbourne to Gold Coast on Monday, January 27.
The 44-year-old passenger, who is a Chinese national and has tested positive to the disease
, is being treated at Gold Coast University Hospital.

To date, there have been two confirmed cases of coronvirus in Victoria, one in Queensland and four in New South Wales.

Global airlines, including British Airways, have suspended all flights to mainland China, while other airlines have also scaled back services to halt spread of the virus.
It comes as Lunar New Year celebrations in Melbourne’s east have been cancelled amid the outbreak.
The 2020 Box Hill Chinese New Year Festival, which was expected to draw tens of thousands of people on Saturday, has been postponed by organisers who cited "cultural and commercial reasons and out of respect for the difficulties currently being experienced by many people".
Diners at a popular Chinese restaurant in Glen Waverley may have also been exposed to the coronavirus, with Victoria’s second case being confirmed on Wednesday.
The patient, a man in his 60s who had travelled to Wuhan in China, is now isolated and recovering at home.

From a humanitarian or Chinese point of view it is already definitely a something burger. In less than a month the infection rate has blown past the total cases for SARS in its entire TWO YEAR period. Now maybe the mortality rate 3% sure (still 30x the common flu), but it's still a massive displacement of capital, and productivity at a time that China (just like us) is teetering near the limits of debt and consumer confidence.

One thing to note is that SARS came right as the world was recovering from the dotcom recession. Plus a major defense spending boom was happening with the Iraq/Afg/etc war. China was still squarely in the emerging market camp, was only beginning to be a major player, and did not have the massive amount of debt that it does today. All of that is the opposite today, China is one of if not THE most important global trade entity, holder of debt, and market player

Dojis are long wick candles with very small body portion. Depending on how strictly you define it, a doji should look like a + sign, with or without extended upper and/or lower wick. They usually suggest indecision on the trend where buy side and sell side are cancelling each other out. If the body of the body is at the top, that's bullish as buyers controlled the candle, body on the bottom bearish as sellers controlled etc.

However! Depending on how you do TA, candle appearance may not be much of a consideration. If you're mostly using indicators, just follow those and don't worry about the candle shapes and patterns. When figuring out how you want to approach TA it's best to prioritize removing complexity you don't need. I trade with three indicators and that's pretty much it.

About outbreak of patient (ninth case) and asymptomatic pathogen carrier (*) related to new type coronavirus

(*) Asymptomatic pathogen carriers are those who have no symptoms but have a positive PCR test

At around 8:00 today (January 30), the National Institute of Infectious Diseases reported three cases of infectious diseases associated with the new coronavirus. One is a patient and two are asymptomatic pathogen carriers.

These were Japanese who returned yesterday on a charter flight from Wuhan City, and a new coronavirus was detected as a result of a PCR test that performed a sample collection at the National Center for Global Health and Medicine. One patient had symptoms such as fever, and it was the ninth case in Japan that the outbreak of patients with an infectious disease related to the new coronavirus was confirmed. We will carry out proactive epidemiological investigations on this matter, including the identification of close contacts.

The other two cases are the first confirmed cases of asymptomatic pathogen carriers. In this case as well, we will conduct aggressive epidemiological investigations, including identification of close contacts.

Right. Asian tech stonks guy here. I took a FUCKING HUGE hit last night, it was the first time I considered panic selling all my stocks. I went from almost 14% profit in 3/4 months to literally 0 in a week.

I actually did sell one of my stonks in panic to have some cash on hand for today. Not really sure what to do with the ones I still have open positions on. I'm sure they'll recover eventually, but I'm not sure about how long it would take and maybe my money can be put to better use elsewhere. Will decide during the day, I think I'll keep my best positions open and ride it out, close the shittier ones to have cash on hand. Today there will be LOTS of shorting opportunities, that I can guaran-fuckin-tee. Asian related stonks mostly (BABA, luckin coffee, KWEB, BIDU, etc.) but US stocks tend to shit the bed after a preceding bad session in asia, so no one is safe today.

tl;dr: this scare will die off eventually, but it might take more than a few days. In the meantime, do secure decent hedge positions and short what you see fit. Use the hong kong market as a sort of predictor for US markets the next day.

True, just that I prefer talking about the market rather than some dude spamming wojaks at somebody for like 20 replies cause it buries discussion
And some people are so desperate to be right about something (like people are thirsty for (You)'s) that they'd spoof ID's. I'm not desperate so I just do what I do normally.

Alot is rising on the WHO. in my opinion the market got over sold yesterday day after Powell's nothing burger speech. Plus tesla got people excite. Who knows, but I bet we still close green friday unless WHO declares world wide emergency.

Lmao did you even read my posts. Stay mad. Your post isnt doing shit either but sperging out and shitting up the board. But keep responding to me and not talking about stocks, boy.

Tesla primed and wants 750 buckos. Only viable shorts I see are those already placed for market open. Short of WHO global emergency announcement this afternoon we close green on friday.

Amazon looking sick over there tho.

I had a dream of the promised land. An /SMG/ thread where the anonymous posters and tripfags can live in harmony. My brothers and sisters we must make this dream a reality! Here today we're going to start a new chapter in the /SMG/ archive, were all shit posts are judged not on the name of the poster, but the content of the shit post.
