Look I love link as much as the next deluded beholder, but there are a lot of cases where external data would be useful to trigger smart contract clauses but a perfectly reliable/decentralized data source doesnt exist. Use the auto collision insurance example... there will probably be a few data sources to work with including GPS info of each car, on-board computer for steering/acceleration/braking data, and possibly a dashcam or two. It's not trivial to see how chainlink oracles can perfectly determine fault and payouts in such a situation where context gets fuzzy such as variation of traffic laws by state/locality, malfunction or tampering of the on-board computers or applicable sensors, and eyewitness accounts that add info that the sensors failed to adequately capture. Kleros adjudication or arbitration would seem to fit a lot better in this case by leveraging the human ability to make informed judgments in imperfect situations, while maintaining a lot of similar benefits as chainlink such as decentralization of the decision-making mechanism, cryptoeconomic security, and flexibility to be applied to any situation where the counterparties to a contract deem it appropriate. Chainlink is still absolutely amazing for any use cases with reliable/well-understood data sources and well-defined computational needs.

From the whitepaper:

>Jurors rule disputes in order to collect arbitration fees. They are incentivized to rule honestly
because, after a dispute is over, jurors whose vote is not coherent with the group will not receive their arbitration fees and furthermore they lose will some tokens. Then both the arbitration fees they would have received if coherent and their lost stakes of tokens are given to coherent jurors.

Which means, if there is a somewhat ambiguous case, in which jurors rule down the middle, say 4-5, you could LOSE MONEY by ruling on the "objectively correct side" due to other jurors being fucking retarded. Yes, your money is dependent on the other jurors not being fucking retarded. Which as we all know, is a huge risk when it comes to other humans.

A problem I could see is that people will only volunteer to be jurors if it is "worth their time". If a particular juror, who actually is smart and studies the cases closely, gets burned multiple times by the retarded majority, he won't be coming back. It's not worth his time. The same goes if the reward in general is not big enough. Think if there is a complicated case that requires close attention and study, you might be spending hours on this case, days possibly, for a small token reward. It is unclear if this represents an efficient use of time to the individual.

There's a small concept in real courts called DELIBERATION, in which the jurors meet PRIVATELY to reach a CONSENSUS, and DEBATE THE FACTS/CASE. Kleros doesn't offer this at all. It relies completely on the "Schelling point" as its golden rule. Which means everyone is reviewing the facts/case privately, with all implicit biases and misunderstandings intact. If they misunderstand a portion of the case, there is no deliberation session in which to ask or be corrected on this point, it is all done alone/without the input of other jurors.

Just a few problems I can think of with this system.

i get you missed the boat on LINK but automating brainlet work that doesn't require a human touch is what will drive the price of LINK ie contractual transactions (including p2p), derivatives, IoE sensor data oracles, etc.

Kleros basically groups together an unrelated unit of people to make a gray-area decision. And maybe that has value. The end game is probably 3rd world nations with an internet connection volunteering (and colluding) to resolve a case that will give them enough pennies to buy food for the week. Because what this will do to arbitration, if successful, is drive the price of arbitration down to the bare minimum that 'jurors' are willing to work for.

if you're planning on making it on Kleros then I hope you have a shitload of it.

>> No.16994173

>>16993974
So you're judging LINK value off the technology being imperative for work flow and cost cutting. Do you not realize just how big and expensive dispute revolution is? We're talking hundreds of millions of cases dealt with annually by giant e-commerce sites alone. Team's papers claim 3-5% of all transactions end in dispute. It's not sustainable nor cheap to deal with these cases in usual centralized, and slow manner. Rather than buying our outsourcing all that dispute resolution, you literally just let an already existing network to do it for your clients for minimal cost. In this case, it'd clearly become an imperative just like Chainlink for all businesses.

I'm not saying Kleros can't be valuable. If it's adopted, it will be an excellent source of low-stakes dispute resolution, and I say low-stakes because businesses who adopt the network will bombard it with the low value slack that's too expensive for them to deal with in house; and as I mentioned prior, they will try to drive the cost of arbitration down as low as possible which will lead to diminishing returns for jurors in the network. The high-stakes arbitration will probably stay in-house because they probably want a favorable agreement that they will refuse to leave up to the judgement of a party of unknowns. Which brings up another point: giants like Amazon and Ebay want a favorable ruling for the house. The potential savings of using the Kleros network can be completely undone if rulings are constantly against them. A completely fair system will likely drive them away from utilizing the network beyond a pilot. Which leaves p2p disputes as the primary driver of network use, and how many people are going to be needing that?

>> No.16994371

>>16994301
eBay doesn’t represent the house. It’s between buyer and seller. They are only a 3rd party negotiator/arbitrator. If anything, they favor with the buyer 95% of the time. You would think most sellers would leave but they don’t.

t. eBay seller $100k gross

>> No.16994417

>>16994371
Then it's probably the case with Amazon as well. I think Amazon stocks it's own shelves though with some in house offerings though. So in that case Ebay could potentially package in the Kleros arbitration system and pocket the difference from the outsourcing.

Come on now. All valid points and I definitely see what you're getting at, but I see it unfolding a bit differently. Correct. The Sybil Attack is not unique to Kleros. But Kleros needs to protect against it if it is to have any chance of success.

We'll be extremely generous and assume that a 51% attack will work (which is far from guaranteed since it provides only a slight edge and requires taking a massive gamble on losing such a large stake), then you can easily calculate how much money the whale consortia would need to spend/risk to acquire and stake 51% of the total staking pool (we can use 51% of the applicable total token value as a safe lower bound, although the real amount is higher due to price slippage in buying such a large share). Then you only utilize the network for contracts worth less than the cost of performing that attack (minus some additional margin for safety). So your fud is now limited to "the network can only secure contracts worth less than some X% of the total network value. Amazing, really compelling stuff anon.

>I fud to get a lower price too.
That accusation would make more sense if Kleros wasn't an ICO.
Grow up anon, not everyone highlighting negative aspects of a token is fudding. The sybil attack is a real issue for kleros - they either need to propose a solution for it, or accept that the outcomes will be controlled by whales.
LINK went through the same thought process, and uses KYC'd nodes as a solution. Kleros will probably have to do the same thing.

Higher IQ than most anons, good that you acknowledge that reputation or KYC will be required to solve this.
> So your fud is now limited to "the network can only secure contracts worth less than some X% of the total network value. Amazing, really compelling stuff anon.
IQ dropped off towards the end. A valid criticism against a project's current design is not necessarily fud, but an acknowledgement that improvements need to be made.

The problem is that said whale would not need 51% of the network to rig a dispute; they would only need 51% of the jurors applying to take the dispute. Unless 100% of the network is applying for every single dispute, then it costs much less to spam one case and obtain 51% of the jury.

also I need to sleep. goodnight.

THEY HAVE THE SOLUTION TO THE SYBIL ATTACK. READ THE FUCKIN BLOG!

Why Does Kleros Need its Own Token?
First and foremost, PNK is a protection against Sybil attacks. In order for an attacker to flood the juror pool, they need to buy enough PNK so that they are selected enough times to be a juror for the same case in order to change the outcome. Generally, this means that the attacks needs 51% of the total (staked) tokens.

You're right, you do seem to be taking a more balanced approach to the discussion, so it's not fair to call it fud. But the issue is also obviated to the extent that you simply operate within the margin of safety provided by the staking economics. Adding sybil resistance layers such as KYC or reputation just increase the costs of performing an attack and so expand the value range of contracts that can be serviced.

Each Juror would have to be staking a certain amount of Kleros to be able to be a juror. Also if the Majority of the jurors disagree with the attackers vote then the attacker pays a portion of their stake to keep honesty.

Fair point but that's why I said applicable total token value (meaning value of tokens being staked into that particular court). The same logic holds for how to calculate the level of security provided by the network's game theory, you just scale down the numbers to deal with what's applicable for the case/court in question. Also worth noting (unless I'm retarded) that staking 51% of the court's tokens does not guarantee you 51% of the votes, since I believe it's a weighted lottery and not direct allocation. So you would stand to lose 51% of the total applicable token pool, but maybe still not even control a majority of the votes.

That's why Kleros has a forking mechanism. If a large whale controls 51% of the court, the court can fork making the attackers PNK worthless and thus, the attack both expensive and pointless.

True. Do you think something like CB could be in the cards? I mean, they listed LINK after all. I am just wondering what will be the pump catalyst for this going forward. It has never pumped before, so it is only a matter of time. I'm thinking the release of their oracle could see a nice pump.

Also, the exchanges its listed on does kind of matter. It's not something to be brushed off. Where can burgers cash out when the time comes?
