My brother faced two felonies for a simple exploit that he actually didn’t do. Cost 60k I’m legal fees and 400 hours of community service. Oh and he can’t get hired by any banks now because it was considered identity theft.

Not worth it.

Start with Phineas Fisher hackback guides:

https://packetstormsecurity.com/files/155392/HackBack-A-DIY-Guide-To-Rob-Banks.html

desu to be a hacker you need to be a good coder, and if you are a good coder you might as well work for the man (easy 6 figures salary), and if you want more hacking and excitement work for the "man" (three letter agencies).
BUT if you are a true idealist and also want to hack as a way of life, robinhood or activist syle, then i guess it makes sense.

>> No.16942249

hm, you could still probably make decent money consulting or working remotely (eg. upwork)

If you do find a "zero day" exploit rather than using it and risking prison you can sell it on zerodium (basically you are selling it to govt agencies afaik), and they can pay 1-2million for exploits, but also youd be a sellout to the us and israel.

Tbh i think hacking is the hardest thing on earth, i cannot think of a harder work. You have to be genius iq and autistic, and be cracking code 24/7 in the totally random hope that you find a vulnerability (which you might not find).
There is also script kiddie hacking, where you just fire up something like metaspoit or nessus to scan for known vulnerabilities and exploits, but that would mostly only get you into raandom people's old windows xp computers, and best you can do is being a low-tier criminal there, either asking for ransom or stealing their credit card or other credentials.

>> No.16942317

>>16942249
i dont care for script kiddie hacking, i wanna learn the computer like the palm of my hand. In the current age i see these skills as being a kind of god where everything is possible if you're good enough, even fucking with letter agencies for fun and maybe profit.
I wanna mess with people while earning money i dont wanna sell out to us and israel. Should i just forget this and be more realistic?

It's somenthing you do only if you have passion... so it's true it's not you that chooses the hacker lifestyle..it's the hacker lifestile that choses you

then go ahead.

Tbh its totally possible to hack and not get caught, you just need good OPsec, and basically be someone who doesn't feel the need to brag about it or talk about it much with other people.

good opsec is:
- buy a separate, used, laptop, only to be used for hacking, NEVER do anything personally identifiable from that laptop
- ideally always connect from some free wifi hotspot or cracked wifi, and always use tor/vpn or both
- trust NO ONE

99.99% of hackers i know got caught through their social network, someone they thought they could trust became an informant and ratted them out.
Now if you want to hack for money, that makes things much harder cause money is traceable, really hard to, say, hack a bank and get money out of it unless you are already part of some criminal group that have a set up of mules, dummy firms, fall guys. That is unless you manage to get paid in crypto.

Personally i think hacktivism (hacking politicians/evil companies) and stealing information (corporate intelligence) is the most fun. You can still make some money out of it if you get insider news to trade on, or asks for ransoms, but it's not as risky as trying to hack banks.

Basically, i wouldnt go into hacking for the money (although you can make decent money with bounty hunting on sites like hackerone), if you are smart enough to actually become a hacker, there are tons of other places where you can make good money without living in hiding and risking prison. But if you are not just doing it for the money it can be a great hobby, think about it, the guy who hacked clinton's email server probably singlehandedly changed the results of the 2016 us presidential election. Indeed hacking can be very powerful

>> No.16942533

"hacking" is mostly a meme. to be an actual legitimate "hacker", you need at least 15+ years of serious experience in software, hardware, networks, programming, encryption, and add on advanced math to put you a cut above the rest. all other forms of "hacking" is shit you can do/learn in less than a day: DDOS/botnets, phishing, keylogging, etc. DDOS won't really bring you financial gain, it's really just to annoy people. It's easy to get caught phishing without properly ensuring the security and anonymity of your server. Keylogging is the most effective and least risky, if you have internal access to whatever computer you're keylogging. But that would likely require illegally accessing someone's computer, which is risky in and of itself depending on whose computer you're keylogging. Just be a code monkey

>but at least i could get a comfy cybersec job
yes. Learn to code get some certs
if you're in your 20's go to college
Yes it's a comfy and well payed job

To find zero ay exploits you have to be an autist and also high IQ and read a lot of code to do not find anything in the end... so it's not worht under the $$$ profile

The hackers who robbed banks until the 2012-14 year did it trought social engeineering

software Hacking it's almost dead. It's all about social engeineering to get into someone else pc.

Of course there will always be zero days... but they will be patched as soon as found

>to be a hacker you need to be a good coder
Okay Coder is enough. Hacking doesn't really involve that much high level coding. Obviously depends on what we are talking about. But mostly not. It's more important to have a good understanding of code.

hacking is just making things work with whatever resources you have available. MacGyver skills applied to comp sci. creative problem solving. that's the true hacker ethos.

>> No.16942827

It's one hell of a lot boring than it sounds. Not even close to the movies. Good start is to get a BS in computer science and a second degree in digital security/forensics. Trust me, it's not worth shit unless you get a crew together to really shell out some decent software. But once you're there, you could make bank going to various hackathons to showcase your abilities and you might get picked by some rando from NSA or CIA. Have a good night.
