>accepted into top 3 law school with 3.7 undergrad gpa and 178/180 LSAT
>not sure where I want to specialize
>start school fall 2017

No rush to pick obviously, but just curious what /biz/ would have to say about which area of law = more money + more jobs

Any experience with law careers anon? Was hoping I'd get a few varying opinions besides questioning my school

What kinda debt will you take on? If you are fully financing your education, it's basically super hard to get federal employmentor corporate work everyday of your life job paying 160k~, law school can be fun being a lawyer is really not unless you have a position that really fits aka prettty much not happening

Not much, grandparent left me a small education trust fund and I scholarshipped my way through a state school so around 70% of that will be covered. 30% would be around $90K~ in debt?

Which is definitely possible to pay in a couple years or shorter even at the lower end of my starting salaries, no worries about getting a job for the most part, dad is a lawyer as well and knows a fair number of firms who respect him.

But I don't have any idea what field I want if I want to live large within a decade or two, I hear corporate law pays buckets but is soul sucking hard work, while things like criminal law pay pennies that will stay pennies for a few years.

So, any advice on what law specialities would pay the most while not being absolutely soul sucking?

I took the bar practice exam the other day holy fuck was it easy no wonder why lawyer's dont get paid shit

Top 3 Law school plus family connections, I'll likely find a high paying job in most fields that normally pay well.

international trade and copyright, digital rights, etc.

humanity is moving more and more of reality into the cyberspace (latest edition: cloud, IoT), and as such that is where a lot (most) of interesting legal questions that are gonna need answering will arise in the near and longterm future.

is my opinion.

e.g. what can I do to prevent people from accessing stolen content hosted in Eritrea being linked to by proxy registries that keep popping up on google? is a cyberattack legal in this context? etc.

Very good point. I can't do patent law because I wasn't technicallly a STEM major (Bach of Science in Economics), but I can go into things more centered around defending and prosecuting cases dealing with legal questions about technology/cyber law

Marriage Law
Marriage Money and Property
Prenuptial Agreements
Divorce The Divorce Process
Divorce and Money
Alimony
Child Support

Human misery will be a constant, but you will make lots of money.

Just keep in mind that you will have to follow Machiavelli approach: "The ends justify the means."

Is not for everyone.

But I don't feel like there's much... prestige in that. I don't want to look scummy by being a cheap divorce lawyer.

Then again I could probably get a job at a good firm in my hometown since it's right next to Dallas.

Does your family have connections in law? Do you expect a high paying job after graduation? Haven't seen you post about these 2 things enough

You also bear the risk of a depressed husband you handled as a client shooting you dead because you ruined his life. I'd stay away from divorce and marriage, people get crazier each and every year
