imagine not being a WEEDBRO in 2020 and being all in WEED STONKS. youre getting in at the bottom of an eventual best gainer in 2020 with more regulations, 2.0 products, and more stores being licensed to sell. looking at CGC, ACB, and CRON, charts have bottomed out and were starting to see a reversal being charted. this is a year hold, and i wont be suprised if we start seeing price action movement soon...

im one of those odd people who mainly focused on day trading and is now dipping my toes into longer-term buy and hold positions, instead of the other way around for most people. im trying to get over my fear of holding onto stocks overnight. seems like it's not so bad as long as you pick a good company and actually work in the electrical engineering industry like i do. also helps that it has a strong following, almost like TSLA to a degree. watching the bulls on stocktwits bully the everloving shit out of the bears is fucking hilarious.

Some of you guys seemed to miss the point why the Wuhan virus is scary.
0. This is not a flu.
1. It doesn't seems to have that very high infectivity for now yet airbone transmission still cannot be ruled out. In other words, even if you do not contact patients directly and wear surgical masks, the protection might still be incomplete and you might still be infected.
2. Once infected, there are about 25% chance, about the same probability as SARS, to trigger immune system and severely destroy the lungs, even if you can survive.
3. The number of reported death is still low for now, but the number could rise rapidly as the situation unfold, and when you enter the aforementioned severe status, the situation would deteriorate very rapidly and no medicine can help you to recover.
4. We have no effective medicine nor effective vaccine for the new virus, in fact we don't even have effective medicine nor effective vaccine for SARS which was already 17 years ago. So don't expect we can develop cure for it any time soon. What the hospital can do, other than isolating those who are infected, would only be issuing medicine that help alleviate the symptoms and weaken your immune system so that damage to the lung could be reduced. These doesn't help you recover from the virus. And in SARS's situation, many cured patient would still have sequelae problems in their bones and other tissues due to those medicines.

Shenyidu: How are you physically?

Wang Kang: This is the sixth day since my release. I can’t do anything labor heavy. I can’t exercise much. But I’m getting better by the day. Sometimes I run out of breath when talking, and I have trouble breathing deeply. Normal breathing is fine for me. I live in Wuhan. I can actually take care of myself now. My parents are taking care of me, too. But I rarely leave the house.

S: Did the doctors prescribe you with any medications?

WK: The hospital gave me two. One for chest activation, one for anti-flu. They prescribed me 4 months for the chest activation, 5 days for the anti-flu drug. Just have to finish this box. That’s also what I’ve been having in hospital. I had some digestive pills this morning.

S: Still feeling upset in your stomach?

WK: My digestive functions are still poor. Had some Jiaozi yesterday. Caused acid reflux and bloating. Still feeling it now.

>under-estimating the risk surrounding Chinese manufacturing
What risk? The Tesla factory is the golden goose of investment in China, it's their leading example that they're open to foreign investment despite the trade war. With the new loan at the best Chinese interest rates, it cost Tesla barely anything and they got one of the largest car manufacturing facilities ever built within eight months of breaking ground. Tesla doesn't care if you try to rip off their products, they're so far out in front of you that whatever you build is outdated the moment they hit the market and they're the premium EV brand in China with a large cult following. Elon Musk was smart enough to play into their ego and nationalism by offering to let them design their next compact car. China doesn't just want to be a manufacture of products, and they can't afford to be, they're desperate for companies like Tesla using their talent pool.
> losing first mover advantage in the electric truck market
To what? All the other electric trucks are garbage and much more expensive to produce compared to the Cybertruck. Tesla is set to have the world's most popular EV truck while Rivian is just turning out a few over priced cars and Ford's f-150 won't even be to market, even if it could compete. The type of people who are going to buy an EV truck won't want a basic F-150 that has been poorly converted to an EV.

Few people are going to want that nerd truck in their driveway. Electric F150s and Silverados are going to sell like crazy for in town fleet users. Private owners will also jump on board because they are tired of getting punished at the pump for using a pick up as a commuter. People want a normal pickup truck with lots of torque and good enough in town range. They don't want to look like an autist.

I think the cybertruck is going to be a flop. And I think long term Tesla is going to get hammered into the ground. They are so far behind their competitors, and musk is so high on his own fumes. They will never make up the difference.

You highly underestimate the appeal of the Cybertruck. It's better at being a truck than other trucks in nearly every way. Truck owners are people that buy for utility, even when they don't need the features. Why would you buy a truck without a built in ramp and electric bed cover? Why would you get something without an air compressor and power supply? Even if other manufacturers start developing these features, the Cyber Truck will be $10,000 cheaper because of its exoskeleton design and as a bonus, you'll get a truck that will never rust, with superior battery technology, superior software, superior assisted driving features, and a body that is four times thicker than a normal truck and thus much more resistant to being damaged by use or vandalism. Oh and it's fucking resistant to 9mm bullets.

I'm all for huge changes when there is a reason for them. I think we should all be driving around electric, carbon fiber cars right now. I think there should be a goverment or industry mandated standard battery footprint and you just go to a charge station to have your battery swapped out in 30 seconds from under the car. I think its only a matter of time before a car maker figures out you can do a single optimized 'skateboard' under the car and put different bodies on it.

But if the world isn't ready for that, or the tech isn't, don't fuck with what works and keep selling F150s like hotcakes.

you seem to have a follower mindset
plenty of things have sold well in the past that no longer exist anymore. Others are on their way out. Do you know how many hundreds of millions of tons of coal we burned over the last centruy?
I could look up facts like how many tons of coal were consumed every hour, but it would be as useless as citing pre-Cyberturck F-150 sales numbers. Now in 2019/2020 we have coal mines closing and about half of the companies going bankrupt or close to it.

You are an opinion follower. Anyone who is an opinion leader can see that the Cybertruck is cool. It's not a revolution in transport; it's still just a think with 4 wheels that travels between locations. But the fact that it is so radically different from the F-150 is the whole draw.

(full disclosure: I/we probably won't buy a cybertruck at all because I only buy used vehicles and I drive less than 20 minutes a day. The current car that I have cost me under 10k and will last me at least a decade. What? We're not talking about buying the top, we're talking about buying at the lows when the markets have been red for months. But either way, if you're in an investment from the top when markets are tumbling then DCA'ing is an option to push your initial investment down in price. At the same time, a good investor is diversified in recession proof stocks aswell. I know a guy that has been trading since the 90s, what he did when the markets smashed key levels was to hedge his index positions while also driving the price down on his long position. In the end he made money hedging while also driving his initial investment in the S&P down by a couple of hundred points.
The point is, nobody can predict the top or bottom.. no matter what. So sitting there saying "don't long the top because it will eventually go down a lot" is just stupid. There are ways to be profitable during a crash while also making your initial positions even better.

Before you even hear its earnings report tomorrow morning?

I have no idea why I got spooked out of holding my BA short and closed it after like 10 minutes.

I’m gonna hang on to this Carnival Cruise Line short. I don’t think this virus thing will blow over easily. People are quick to be frightened at shit like this, but slower to forget.

Making mistakes is part of the learning process. I have no stake in these companies, and while I believe stocks are going up, I have no interest in buying, selling, or speculating on either of them.

Keep your bets small and live to play another day.

Carnival is for poors, but I think they also have a chunk of chinese business.

Problem is they’ve already taken a hit from trump saying no trips to Cuba. Also...

They already trade at a fucking 12 P/E. In this market. That’s like... it’s not as bad as VIAC (I bought some of those cheapies today!) but it’s still reaaaaaal cheap.

>Truck owners are people that buy for utility
As a commercial auto underwriter, I can say that it's utility, ease of obtainment, reliability, and looks. This electric truck shit is too soon for major impact in the USA (idk about EU and potential subsidy). I would cast your sights to about 2025. I think that you'll get better answers then. Infrastructure will likely be key.
