16912505 No.16912505 [Reply] [Original]

>Steven T. Johnson, 27, works in social media advertising and lives in Hollywood. He spends most of his days using things he does not own.

>He takes a ride-share service to get to the gym; he does not own a car. At the gym, he rents a locker. He uses the gym's laundry service because he does not own a washing machine. Johnson doesn't even have an apartment, actually. He rents a bed in a large room with other people who rent beds, for nights, weeks or months at a time, through a service called PodShare. All the residents share a kitchen and bathrooms. Johnson also rents a desk at WeWork, a coworking space. And he says the only clothes he owns are two versions of the same outfit.

>Johnson says he owns so little that he has even been able to get rid of his backpack. "I gave that up two months ago," he says. He says that for him, this lifestyle isn't cumbersome or confusing. "That's what's great," he says. "When you don't own things, you don't have to keep track of them. You just show up." He pays $1,400 a month to rent a bunk and an additional $600 a month to rent a desk to work at.

I know you're a sad teenage troll but I'll explain how it works here in Britain, an actual first world country unlike America where you die if you can't afford an ambulance. I contribute hundreds a month in NI and thousands in taxes. I have paid well over 100k into the NHS over my lifetime, and taken probably a quarter of it back through surgery, check-ups and medication. I don't resent paying this because I understand if I get some insane rare bone cancer that costs £100,000 a day to treat, I'll get that treatment if it's at all possible. Likewise, my family and friends will get the same care regardless of their financial situation. Of course now we have issues with migration and bloated middle management that mean we need to reform it pretty urgently. But I am extremely proud of my country's healthcare and of the fact I help keep it afloat. On the whole I despise socialist ideas but I think a country where poor people literally die off like flies cannot be considered developed. Now, fuck off and die you insufferable cunt.

Because working from home can get really fucking depressing and lonely. Using a co-working space gets you out of the house, you get to be around people, usually the same people are there so you can develop relationships. Also, it's not just for normies. I'm a friendless loser autist and I thought I'd love working at home. I barely talk to anyone anyway, so it won't make a difference, right? Nope. Turns out staying at home for days on end and not saying a word to anyone, or even being around people at all, fucks me up.

Also, working in a place that you specifically associate with work can help with productivity.

However I finished my cybersecurity degree last year and I feel like I should actually use it sooner rather than later so I got a job in cybersecurity consulting at a big4 accounting firm starting in a few months. At least I'll have something on my CV and when I go back to working for myself I would be able to get a job 10-15 years down the road if everything goes to shit and I need a "real" job. My thinking is that if I just finished my degree and kept working online for myself, I wouldn't have anything on my CV if I wanted a job in 10-15 years making it much harder.

Idk. All I really want to do is move to Thailand/SEA and live like a king while working a couple hours a day from my laptop. I'm currently making good money so it would be pretty easy. Also even if I had no income at all I could still live in Thailand very comfortably for years and years.

Get that house and land if you can afford it. Especially so if you have a family. I too was imprisoned by a city once and was miserable.

People say that you don't have anything to do in the countryside, but it's the opposite. You can be outside and get fresh, clean air for once, you can do fun stuff outside with your friends and family, like barbeques, sports, play with kids, fix cars, have farm animals, hike on trails, offroad. Any kind of natural, manly stuff that's healthy. Also, in my experience rural communities are less degenerate and more wholesome in general.

Yes, every small town has its drunks and do-nothings, but at least you're not swering around heroin needles and there's probably a community/church/school where you can raise a decent family.

I hope you reach your goal. It's liberating.
