This man was perhaps the best investor in the world. He started with $15,000 and ended with around $200,000,000 26 years later before retiring at 59, and had (and gave away most of) over $800,000,000 at the time of his death at age 87.

It's a shame that he and information about him are so obscure. It's an even bigger shame that he killed himself a few months ago.

>"I had a rewarding life. Thank you and goodbye to all my friends. Please make sure you cancel all my plans. Tell everyone what I did. I’m not ashamed of killing myself. Sell all my stuff.'"

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2529224/Friends-pay-tribute-frugal-billionaire-87-gave-700million-charity.html

He also pretty much told Bill Gates to fuck off (whether that's a good thing or not):
>Your “Giving Pledge” has a loophole that renders it practically worthless, namely permitting pledgees to simply name charities in their wills. I have found that most billionaires or near billionaires hate giving large sums of money away while alive and instead set up family-controlled foundations to do it for them after death. And these foundations become, more often than not, bureaucracy-ridden sluggards. These rich are delighted to toss off a few million a year in order to remain socially acceptable. But that’s it. I’m going to stay far away from your effort. But thanks for thinking of me.

>I wouldn’t have much fun or add much value to this group. You, being a liberal, think you can change people more than I think.

A rare interview on his investing methods:
>So the way I dealt with that was instead of being long $200 worth of stocks with a $100 net worth, I would be long $150 worth of stock, and short $50.

The only setbacks this man had was that he was a fedora and he killed himself, both personal choices of course.

Killing yourself at age 87? That's bad ass.

He had $225,000,000 after 26 years of investing. He had $800,000,000 at the age of 87.

I have mad respect for people like him.
Gates and Buffett on the other hand are attention whoring hypocrites who somehow still end up being under the 5 richest men in the world after having "given away" so much of their wealth to not-a-single-fuck-knows shady "charities".
It's like the Oscars, a big sharade, where super rich applaud each other and stroke their egos in public for giving away a couple millions each year and then getting most of it back through tax deduction.
