Amazing that LPTX and VSTM are finally getting good news and pumping, while GALT uhhhhhh this may just go down in flames... even AMRN is still higher than when it was originally being shilled.

By the by, AMRN got an article on TheStreet if you’re in need of hopium.

The Chinese government is also scrutinizing China's tech industry with a magnifying glass similar to the non-sense occurring here in the US. What doesn't make any sense to me is that the government itself has propped up these companies and just now decides to make a lot of noise regarding their size and their success for whatever reason they are doing so.

The Chinese are a weird culture. Bizarre.

Just this little articlet showed up in my news feed. I can never actually find the articles robinhood shows me, maybe because I don’t pay for the WSJ.

God damn I almost want to keep buying, roll my call into another call... day after day the call buying volume is high and always very skewed towards calls.

Think I’ll just let it ride for a while, it’d be kind of crazy to get assigned and then use it to write calls off of... I mean, it’s a chinkshit company So you can’t trust their balance sheets, and it’s an Internet stock so it’s valuation is basically the Pixies/Excalibur multiple

GSK is british and does a lot of foreign business, so it gets hit whenever the pound strengthens. I think it’s vaccine business also has some risks from competition, something about possible Chinese competitors or something. But I do like having some non-US exposure.

Also the CEO often gets a lot of praise and she’s speaking at next week’s conference. Could be a positive catalyst, could be a nothingburger.

All in SOXL was substituted cuz SOXL is the answer. Face it. Semiconductors are crack in all but name. The desire for newer, faster, more is insatiable. Computers, GPUs, self-driving electric cars, AI enhanced smartphones, medical devices, microcontrollers, networkinging gear, machine learning, surveillance, infrastructure, military, the list is endless. No matter how many cores, how fast or efficient, demand requires bigger, faster, cheaper, and better. The clamor for fresh silicon gives nary shit for national identity, creed, hue, gender, asshole virginity or other vain conceit; the multitude speaks in singular. The plea: semiconductor.
SOXL couples a single ETF entry point with the the best companies the semiconductor space has to offer then pushes these already stellar returns to the limit with 3x leverage, all responsibly managed via daily rebalancing to boot. SOXL aligns your economic interests with powerhouses like Nvidia, Qualcomm, Intel, Broadcom, Micron, Texas Instruments, Applied Materials, et al. Real tech companies with innovative products people want, not """tech""" """companies""" pushing shitty ads.
In the last 7 years, SOXL has exploded over 42x yet still we are early. Semiconductor growth will proceed exponentially until every viable space is saturated with it. This is a fait accompli; the sheer number of interested parties and obviously compelling outcomes make it so. The injection of increasingly compact and efficient sensors, microcontrollers, information processing, and storage into everywhere and everything will be this era's seminal revolution, a revolution with SOXL holders planted firmly at the receiving end.
Stop waiting for the "pullback". Where we're going, fretting over a few dollars is meaningless. The deliberation is over; waiting is a failure mode. Now. Buy it now.

newfag to options
if i buy an option expiring 1/17 can i exercise the option at any time? if the stocks price is above the strike price on a call for even a minute can I exercise it and make money?
if my option does shitty, do I just wait until 1/17 and lose whatever the premium the seller made (usually like 15 bucks)?

1. Yes, if you're using robinhood they make it kind of tricky to exercise them, I think you have to call in or something. Most people just sell their contract for a profit, it's much easier.
2. Also yes, but you can sell your bad contract (hopefully, if there's volume) before expiry to save some of your cash.

Nokia seems to be a promising investment mid/long term. the price took a beating when they announced a halt in dividend payouts, but has been slowly climbing since
Nokia is a big developer of 5G, and has pretty good outlooks with 63 commercial 5G deals around the world (https://www.nokia.com/about-us/news/releases/2020/01/09/nokia-highlights-momentum-with-63-commercial-5g-deals/))

just a few thoughts, after seeing this unbelievably bullish market go on for quite some time now. I don't buy into the fear of recession, nor slowing down. I'm fully aware that the bull can keep going up for a while since the fed is in full QE mode and nothing will happen before this years' election, but. Let's assume there is a crash incoming. You set decent stop losses to secure the gains you have been making all of these years. What then? I've been thinking about that. Ohhhh yes it will!

Tesla has confused people, through the power of Grimes being a super fuckable cybergirl.

The reality is that automobiles are a dying industry. Rather than public transportation killing it off, it was the simple addition of fast cellular networks that allowed for Uber and lyft to take over.

The only people buying cars are the rich, and the people who are forced to rent their cars out and sell their time as Uber and lyft drivers.

They’re buying their own wage cages, once they finish paying it off.
Hopefully they got low APR...

In order of expected gains:
SOXL is the big dick ETF of choice, read the pasta for details >>16793370 As long as the semiconductor sector remains king shit this is how you make it
TQQQ is triple Nasdaq bull also fantastic
SPXL or UPRO are the S&P 500 triples is great if you like 3x leverage but are slightly more conservative. The beauty with these is practically zero chance of even a 12 sigma black swan shitting over the market and causing the ETF to drop more than 33% in a day thus getting liquidated. The circuit breakers are your friends here.
If you are in the US and have a small account subject to pattern day trader rules you can kinda sorta day trade buy buying the bull ETF and then "selling" by buying the opposite bear ETF. For SOXL, say you buy 5 shares in the morning, it moons and you want to get out without triggering a day trade. You would buy SOXS as its opposite thus essentially flattening your account. The next morning you can get out of both then wash rinse repeat.
The triple leveraged bear for TQQQ is SQQQ and for SPXL/UPRO is is SPXS/SPXU. The prices are different so just buy as close to the same dollar amount as you can get.

If you say so.

I don’t mean there won’t be cars anymore, it’s just in decline and likely will continue to decline in the US, as people don’t seem to be getting their lisences. People seem to have decided that they’d rather pay someone with a car to drive them when they needn’t it. If there’s going to be growth it will be in China, and GM and Ford won’t be given a real chance to compete.

However... owning a personal car lends itself to a sort of individualist thinking that conflicts with the collectivist mentality that the rulers of China would like to engender. So we’ll see if they tolerate that.

>i unironically hold only triple leveraged ETFs is this bad?
Not in the slightest assuming they're index ETFs. Synthetic triple leveraged S&P has been backtested a hundred years even through the depression and would never have been liquidated. I can't remember the gains but it's something utterly ridiculous like many 10s of thousands of percents. People like throwing stuff out like volatility decay but to prove the point they use stupidly contrived scenarios that can and will never happen so their arguments are somewhat correct while their conclusions are utterly wrong.
The worst thing you will have to worry about is the stomach churning drawdowns but if you can get past that (I can) you will make it in the long term. My strategy is to use them as trading vehicles so I'm always in and out, never staying in long enough for decay to even factor and certainly never long enough to be subject to the occasional huge drawdown (think the great recession). But even if you just hodl you'll be alright.
>>16795903
I would trade UBOT but it strays too far from the big indexes like the S&P and dow for my comfort. When I pick leveraged ETFs, I try to find stuff that more or less tracks the main indexes just with bigger gains. That way I can intuit the direction as just a component of the general market. UBOT doesn't work as well thus I usually just stick to tried and true SOXL, TQQQ, and SPXL. I think those three should be the core of the strategy and anything else can be good for messing around or trading but never long term hold

We've had a huge runup these last few weeks so expect a reversal at some point but stay strong and when it goes down just buy more. In the end you'll make it with huge gains and much less risk than any single stock. If you like trading, meditate on the idea of putting 1/3 of your account in the leveraged ETF to track the underlying then take the other 2/3 and buy/sell the dips. That way you at worst maintain parity with the nasdaq index but the trading pretty much guarantees beating the market. I use this strategy in one of my equity accounts and it has done exactly that.

Stock newfag here. So, just to make sure I understand this correctly, do daytrading rules only apply if you're using margin? And cash accounts are instead limited by the time it takes for transactions to settle to avoid freeriding violations?

Let's say I have $1000 in my account. If I understand correctly, I can buy and sell around $100 dollars of stock 10 times in a day, but if I buy anything after that with the money from my earlier sales, I would have to wait 2-3 days for the transactions to settle before I could sell anything bought with those proceeds. A XIV-esque death spiral is always a possibility but with anything market related you are always taking your chances you just have to situate things in your favor as well as possible. That's why for one thing I only trade index leveraged ETFs and I don't use them for long term investing (though you probably could). I day trade them and have done really really well. I've traded through an extreme bear market before and came out with much more than I started and relish the opportunity to do that with these ETFs. I am very doubtful though that SPXL or even TQQQ will be liquidated or abandoned even in another recession. Remember that Direxion runs a market neutral strategy with these instruments so even in a huge downturn they aren't actually losing any money cuz SPXS and SQQQ gain an equal amount to the losses. And market participants are mostly using these for trading so they aren't just going to abandon them en masse in a bear market. If anything the volatility will attract people even more.
And then there's the fact that if you really think Direxion may just drop one of the funds you can always copy the strategy yourself using the futures market. Just 3x leverage yourself into the /ES or /NQ and do the daily rebalancing by hand. You could use a script. That way there's no danger of Direxion fucking you over. And as long as you stick to your rebalancing you will never get margin called. Deleverage on the way down and leverage back in on the way up maintaining that 3x

At this point in his career, absolutely nothing Elon Musk says can be trusted. As investors in Enron, Worldcom, MiMedx, and similarly fraudulent companies run by con
men can attest, the value of a company which has never turned a sustained profit,
which has serious accounting irregularities, which has already signed a binding consent
decree with regulators concerning unprecedented securities fraud, which relies on
criminals for stealth marketing, which burns through executives literally on a monthly
basis, which buys products from itself to placate Wall Street, and which is run by
someone whose word is fundamentally worthless, is precisely that: zero.
In his zeal to keep Tesla afloat, Elon Musk has repeatedly committed criminal acts with
the same nonchalant ignorance that allowed him to falsely proclaim that he had found
a cure for autism in an untested, still-theoretical microchip. The company’s perpetually precarious financial position—propped up by taxpayers, investors and pre-paid
deposits for nearly two full decades—has resulted in a dynamic that resembles a
Madoff-scale Ponzi scheme far more than a real corporation. Though Tesla’s products have at times been quite innovative (and the company has over the course of
nearly seventeen years employed many brilliant engineers), they also have suffered
from serious design defects that have cost real lives. Musk, always the master of
distraction with his quirky humor and big ideas, has done an impressive job keeping
the mainstream press’s attention far from the company’s core problems. But at the
end of the day, Tesla does not have a future as an independent, profitable company.
Its competitive advantage as the first mover in the electric vehicle market has all but
eroded, which in a best-case scenario will very likely leave it in the same place as
other once-powerful first movers such as Friendster, IBM, Polaroid, and Napster, which
is to say, nowhere.

But more likely, if a Democrat is elected to the White House in 2020, Tesla will one
day go bankrupt, and Elon Musk will go to prison along with the many executives who
could not find the courage to say “no.”

yikes

It's not a meme. SOXL has gained over 42x in the last 7 years. Yes the entire market has had a massive run up suggesting we could be in for a massive correction soon. Or we could have another 10 years to go and another 40x. The practical worst case scenario is you get in at the top and the market shits itself. Your strategy then becomes obvious. When SOXL drop 80% mortgage your fucking entire life and go all in. Then retire a multi-millionaire in a few years after the inevitable recovery. Remember this is the semiconductor sector of the US stock market not crypto shitcoins. I can't think of anything in this world I am more bullish on long term no matter what plausibly happens. And if you just want to trade SOXL is even better

This doesn’t resemble a blow off top yet.
And investor sentiment isn’t all that bullish, though consumer comfort just came in pretty high and jobless claims pretty low.

If we’re going to get a blow off top then you should be leveraging up and take your winnings when you’re up 50% or so.

This is what happens when you think you can call the reversal... i got cocky and DCAed to early fug :DDDD

You're right, but I think this is the "flavor" of blow off top we are seeing this time, since nobody can call a market top there will be some prevailing sentiment proven false that currently every body believes. Actual euphoria happened after the tax cuts and when major index's went parabolic, and the flavor is people believing at their core the markets are anywhere near correctly priced IMO, the false assumption being you can indeed quantitatively define future cash flow or risk with any sort of certainty. I don't think we will see -1000 days for a while, I do think there is a high chance we see the start of what may become a bear market. Currently institutional investors are extremely leveraged up, there is the lowest hedging in place since the 90's, and the CAPES ratio is absolutely disgusting right now. The only hedging bullish indicator is volume and equity outflows this year, but even the equity outflows are less then what buffet has in cash right now.
