At one of my previous jobs we had a malicious coworker who intentionally clogged the toilets by flushing latex gloves and other junk. At one point this resulted in the building getting flooded and a guy came over to probe the pipes and clear them of shit encrusted latex. I have never seen anyone so unhappy at their job. Most positions for new construction and pipe fitting are reserved for people with experience. Every plumber is gonna have to dig through shit unless they got into plumbing through their dad or something. Those positions you're talking about get relatively way more applicants and is a lot more competitive. Also being a pipe fitter only and not someone that is willing to maintain existing plumbing also makes you way less recession proof as you're essentially depending on the real estate bubble to keep inflating to stay employed. It is in your interest as a decent plumber to deal with the nasty stuff

I literally didn't become a plumber because it was so disgusting. He did the pipefitting thing and oil/gas work, but most of his job was going to houses snaking drains, clearing grease traps for restaurants, and unclogging old ladies shit filled toilets. And he did clean up floors from burst pipes, and he was always employed even through the 2008 recession when a lot of fitter only guys were getting laid off. If youre doing work on existing systems, you are bound to have some leaks and have to clean up shit because a lot of time as a plumber you will make a bit of a mess of peoples basements. It's bound to happen sometime. if you go into that job and expect to only be connecting brand new pipes you are naive
