I think your hypothesis is incongruent with the evolution of the universe as a whole. Like consider for example that the universe evolved over billions of years and life also evolved over billions of years on this planet. Obviously aliens are the product of our universe, then you would expect extremely rapid evolution, like within years, not many millions of years, they would have the technology to do it quickly and probably not the patience to wait that long. So it seems to me to be more congruent to assume that whatever caused "random" mutations if they were guided by a super-earthly principle, they were guided by the spirit of God, its effects shown but He Himself as the originator of it hidden. Now, if I was a believer in in God in suppose, 1000 AD, and then someone came to me and proved a whole lot of modern physics and chemistry and biology, explaining the appearance of the night (and daytime) sky, and what is fire, and what causes disease, all of which we accept as well established in 2020, then that would not mean that I would have to abandon my belief in God. And I don't think we need to abandon a belief in a higher power, or spirit ("the force", from Star Wars?)... just that we can likely explain parts of the world now that we previously attributed to God. For example creationists said that God ("a higher power") must have guided evolution... that evolution by itself is impossible. It didn't have to be God, it could be aliens or civilisations of etheric beings, which would still be "a higher power" (imagine the technology we will have in 1000 years, in 1,000,000 years, if we survive). And then when we met them we might find out that they believe in God, or a higher power, the same way we do.
