No and you shouldn't bother with it. There are much better options for entry and exit indicators. Hell, even MACD is probably better than RSI for that. MACD is laggy, which is why i don't care for it, but at least it won't tell you to sell way early on a pump or buy way too soon on a falling knife.

>> No.16750275

>>16750259
For buying oversold I understand that it is necessary to wait for elevating factors that indicate recovery is again occurring. On the selling end, selling at 70 RSI seems like a safe bet. Are there other indicators that can point to a later, higher exit point that are as reliable?

>>16750275
>selling at 70 RSI seems like a safe bet
Backtest that and see for yourself. By the by, the prescribed standard method for using RSI as a swing indicator is to wait until the line falls back below the 70 line after spiking above it. For buy, wait until it comes back up above 30 after dropping below. This performs better than insta-buying when the lines is below 30 and insta-selling when it goes above. Still not great.

>>16750298
Stochastic RSI lags less but it's also too twitchy (gives false signals). I don't want to give away my whole strat here but I can point in the right direction:
>some kind of moving average line. I like the ichimoku baseline and conversion line combo (basic technique is only by when the conversion line is above the baseline. Experiment here too).
>use a zero line volume indicator like the Elder's Force Index. Line cross above zero = bullish, and vice versa
>secondary indicator, could be a two lines cross style like the MACD or stochastic RSI (there are tons of these so experiment) OR another zero line cross like Rate of Change.
Fiddle around with settings a bit but remember the default setting is usually where it is for a reason. Look at old charts with these and compare where they said to exit or enter against what the chart actually did at that point.

Cuz American cars are absolute shit. They can’t even be given away. The maintenance of American cars are atrocious. It’s broken window capitalism: make shit cars, give them away for shit, but make money on the maintenance. Every month American cars need some >400 cash infusion. Now that people caught up to this shit and cash for clunkers failed, Americans have to throw up all over the board and change the rules. Tesla is just next level shit, and once they get market share/monopoly, it will be broken window capitalism again. Never buy American even if the product was given away for free.

I sold AMRN for two reasons; Profit and Greed. I made about 4000 on the deal when I sold. Could I have made more via holding? Sure but nowhere near the amount that ONTX will bring and at a super low investment cost upfront to boot. So I see it as a win. Lets compare: I had 872 AMRN shares. At 45 a pop (buyout assumption) I'd get $39,240. Now ONTX; I've got 12,100 shares. At 2.5 a pop (low ball) I'd get $30,250. When you consider that I dumped 12,000 back into the bank after I sold AMRN, my total cash haul comes to $42,250 once ONTX delivers the goods. A 3,010 difference. Hell if ONTX hits the 52w high of 4 my profits spike to $48,400.00

Don’t listen to this headline-reading sudden genius. Baseline requirements for bonds to be worth purchasing is that they meet or exceed expected inflation. High risk corporate bonds can have fairly good yields and are a good way to offset the risk experienced by a stock portfolio, seeing as stocks and bonds typically experience inversed trend lines.

index funds is decent when you gonna invest the big bucks like $10k to a million dollars. But when you got a small account with only like $500 to $1,000 it will only give you pennies.

With Swing Trading you can grow a small account pretty fast if you learn how to use some indicators, which btw is not that hard. Learn to use SMA 180, SMA 9, RSI, MACD, Volume obviously... Without high volume there is no growth and is hard to buy and sell. Anything with less than 2 millions in volume is pointless. The most important indicator is the SMA 180 tho, with it you'll have a guide on when to enter and when to get out.

I still like MRK and LLY, because cancer and diabetes aren’t going anywhere. But they’ve run up soo far that I’m waiting to add.

I got stopped out of GSK, and I’m still in AZN, but I’m looking to add to those on any Brexit related selloffs.

Potential gains for MRK, GSK, and AZN in China, even from phase one alone. AZN also has partnerships in China that should allow them to thrive.

But China has been encouraging their own oncology and vaccine development, and that could cause a real headwind, so there’s a lot of unknowns.

For med tech I’ve been considering something like CRL, but it’s not devices.

One caught my eye recently but I can’t find the name anymore, I’ll see if I can dig it up. Maybe VEEV?

Here’s a pic from the Argus New Years investment theses report that might interest you, the med tech section.

The US population is fucking fat, and 50% of healthcare spending is on 2% of individuals with chronic diseases, the biggest being diabetes, sleep apnea, and COPD. 11% of the US population is now diabetic.

I look at a stock like DXCM and I see a ton of potential. I believe their G6 glucose monitor is the future of diabetes care-it plugs into the body to read insulin levels and sends the signal to an insulin pump to keep levels healthy. This is HUGE, eliminating the need for fingerpricks and lancets. Diabetics are miserable bastards, and it makes their life significantly easier.

The big reason I'm bullish on it is currently only one major insurer covers the G6 for type 2 diabetes. This will change as the insurance companies realize that covering the glucose monitor is cheaper than paying for 3 ER visits per year. And finally, even if democrats gain momentum, dexcom will be fine. It doesn't make a difference to them whether it's the government or insurance paying for their shit.

I encourage you to do your own research in the sector. There is a ton of money in the treatment of chronic diseases. The demand is inelastic and the affected population is just increasing.

He has a nice thesis but as with a lot of investment ideas, the key thing that is almost never right is the timing. Do remember that Burry was wrong for a long time on shorting the housing market and had to liquidate a part of his bet before he was able to cash in. So on this, I think he has some nice ideas but the timing and market share of passive vs active isn't at the point where a lot of what he says would be true. Passive would have to rise a lot more before what he says will happen will come true.

trader here. after learning about shit like the great depression and the 2008 financial crisis and with all of the political shit going on currently i think long term investing is foolish at best. the great depression literally happened because everyone thought the stock market would only ever go up. the housing bubble happened because people thought real estate prices could only go up. look at what fucking happened there, fuck that shit. also you're not goddamn motherfucking warren buffet and this is not the 1950's, fuck off.

when you make a put, you're betting on shorting the stock's derivative. so if the stock's futures compound, your speculative ROI gap becomes bullish, but if its futures diverge, your risk profile bubble has the potential to burst and you stand to gain massively.

For call options, the strike price is where the security can be bought by the option holder; for put options, the strike price is the price at which the security can be sold.

Since you have a put you have the right to sell AMC at 7. If an option expires it means no one exercised their right to it and the option just ceases to exist (and since it doesn't exist it's value is now $0).

Fuck no I am not a zoomer.

I am just intelligent enough to know that this length of bull market, coupled with the rising tensions with China and with Iran, a looming presidential race all point to there being a massive correction soon.

I mean that's fine but you should come up with some better allocation than 100% cash
I mean, I don't want to hate on it, cash is fine, and if you really can't find anything better to buy across all the possible asset classes, then... OK
but you should try to find something. look at all the anons in the thread buying gold and miners! that's a real investment that will beat cash... there are plenty of stable stocks that can do OK and hold a dividend during a little turbulence...
I'm not going to make big predictions about the economy or whatever. But no matter what happens, you should be able to find a better way to deal with all open probabilities

I'm keeping things pretty neutral and I'd suggest to not get too carried away in the headlines

US, China, Iran etc. have a lot more to gain than to lose by chimping out.
They'll all make a show of thumping their chests to drum up support. Sure, things can go wild, but it really isn't as likely as the rhetoric makes it seem.
US equities will be held up regardless; Trump and the Fed need to secure the boomer retirement criteria.

My advice is still "steady in, steady out". Unless you are really trying to run an aggressive trading strategy, you should never be all-in or all-out. And you shouldn't be making big sudden swings in allocations unless things really get apocalyptic. The media will always want to make things seem apocalyptic, that's their job. We've had these same Iran headlines for the last couple decades, just like oceans rising up to cover Florida and North Korea nuking everyone etc.

I'm telling you people. Get in the OIL TRAIN. If you missed the boat on Friday then wait for a dip tomorrow and then sell the next day. You still got time, there are always people that get cold feet and sell early and that causes a dip where you can get in.

Do not underestimate the significance of the killing of Soleimani. I keep a very close hand on the middle east and all the affairs that go on there. It is highly likely we will get drug into a regional conflict like Desert Storm or the like. I do not think we will occupy but if you have any stock in the oil industry consider selling. The Iranians may close the Straight of Hormuz as retribution. That in turn will fuck over China as they are much more oil import dependent than us.

I also tend to believe the /pol/ conspiracies that Sole was either set up or not killed at all.
You don't just send your #2 most important dude into dangerous territory to shoot a mortar round at an embassy and break some glass...
The back-and-forth between US and Iran seems very choreographed, very measured, just like when we cross dicks with China or North Korea. Everyone knows what the score is, no one is crossing any lines.

He was both.

He was the head of the military in Iran and he ALSO was a "Living Maryr of the Revolution" so there is a religious aspect there as well. He was an effective commander and did a great job at IO (information operations). The religious aspect now makes him an even larger martyr.

It is my prediction that the second they have the burial on Tuesday there will be an attack on US assets in there area. How far that goes is anyones guess.

I’ve been saying for months that Iran is getting increasingly desperate. I hadn’t considered that they also have to steal the spotlight away from North Korea.

I tend to think pol is largely retarded. The fact that they completely ignore the Saudis is very odd to me. They’re also 1000% certain that ww3 is starting. They’re also sure that stocks are a Ponzi scheme and refuse to buy even an index fund lmao.

Selling at 70 RSI on the daily for just about anything usually means missing out on some of the best gains as it continues to 85.

RSI is decent, but it is a very rough and lagging indicator. It doesn't literally mean overbought and oversold. It gives you an idea that it may be time to sell in thebnext 5-10 sessions at best. It is actually a very good continuation signal on a monthly and weekly chart. i want my stocks to stay in overbought 70+ territory for months and years at a time in a good bull market (on the monthly chart).
