Finally got some delayed Tezos rewards even after selling, but I can't seem to find any source saying where the Tezos funds are coming from. Are they actually earning money already to pay these staking rewards or are they paying cash from a pre-set fund that will run out and hoping they'll make money later?

Most rewards are payed in xtz, for the cash ones, Tezos Foundation has one of the biggest warchest of the crypto sphere, exclunding obviously BTC/ETH
the whole premise is to incentivize block validatio via baking or delegation, every xtz you commit via staking is "used" (not directly, hence the quotation marks) to validate blocks, so rewards are a portion of what delagated tokens allowed to mine, your delagation increase the value of the network even after your reward

Your rewards are coming from the PoS consensus - not a third party. The reason they are delayed is it takes about 36 days for your XTZ to unlock the rewards, so you should make a bit every three days until your final cycle comes.
