Remember what he meant about donating his wealth to charity, he gave control of his MS stock to his own foundation. That way he can sell his shares that he got for free and never pay a penny in taxes.

All his private jet trips? Paid for by his foundation

His clothes? Litterally paid for the foundation.

His cars? Paid for by the foundation, kids getting 6 figure jobs at the foundation as consultants.

I'd love to see if he supported the ending of tax write offs for charities and ban them from holding stock.

I don't know how people who think guys that managed to gain net worths in the billions would ever give money away. Don't they realize people never reach such wealth without being cutthroat and obsessed with money? Bill's good nerdy guy image hasn't worked for many years.

I think the American healthcare system should try to move toward single-payer if it's somewhat comparable to what people would otherwise be paying, on average, for insurance premiums and copayments. But I don't buy sentiment about changes in taxation from people like Gates or Buffett. As this anon mentions >>16730948. People don't get to places of power by playing nice, and all this "tax the rich, meanwhile I'm about keel over and die, or I've already organized distributions to myself through different entities" just comes off as having ulterior motives or trying to promote some image. Buffett does this, especially.

Not if they cryogenically freeze themselves and wait until there is a cute for aging. This is legit what rich people are doing after death for their brains and organs.

>entirety of macos is better
if you were comparing backends, do it equally and just say *BSD/UNIX is better than the windows backend, which is actually pretty nice if you ignore the backdoors. if you consider macos to be good, you're either already in the ecosystem and buying a new device every year or just like the frontend look, in either case you're an idiot.

>> No.16733146

That's just how the game is played. Monetizing poverty is the only way to make charity worthwhile, if Bill gates were to give away even just 1% of his wealth to charity no strings attached right now then considering his rate of return right now that is closer to 3-6% drawdown in his total wealth in 10 years. That means by giving those poor people 1 billion in charity now he is costing the impoverished in the future 5 billion he could of given them instead. This is why the rich often say tax rates should be higher while doing the opposite, if everyone was required to pay 10% more in tax then bill gates giving billions to the government would be a level playing field and not just financial suicide. it has a lot to do with the laws surrounding corporations as well, corporations are legally obligated to do everything to generate returns for the shareholders, one of the easiest and most cost efficient forms of that when you have hundreds of billions of dollars and "market cap" actually becomes a limiting factor in your investments, is lobbying the government for tax reforms.

So I don't think it's hypocritical at all actually for him to say that. We can debate all day if corporations would actually pay the tax or would skirt it and hide the money, or if the government would actually spend the money prudently, but if the floor isn't higher on taxes it is a moot point argue wether or not they would actually get paid, since you can't bring criminal cases for a hypothetical scenario.

With that being said there is absolutely an argument to be made for passing better laws, closing loopholes, and starting initiatives in regards to making sure corporations and the wealthy are actually paying the fair amount of taxes currently required by law before we raise them more, especially after the Panama papers, but I think there is a clear reason you never hear politicians or the rich talk about that and instead argue over the current tax rates ad infinum.
