Guys, please educate me a bit on dividend stocks.
I am holding 100 of STM - in green about $80.

Usually it would be. But the next time a USA recession occurs it's going to trigger a massive domino effect across the corporate bond market leading to a interest rate feedback loop and ensuing multi-decade depression. Like the Nikkei and like the 1930s, it will take 20-30 years for stocks/bonds to recover, if they ever do at all. If your time horizon is like 40+ years for retirement then sure, time-in-the-market will probably still win out for you.

If I'm awake to watch all the twitchiness that happens in the first 90 minutes I get all nervous and make bad decisions. Opening bell is lies. Last 30 minutes of power hour is truth. Now saying that, I slept through the entire day today, woke up 40 minutes before closing bell, made one purchase. THAT was lazy. I usually wake up for a bit midday to see what's what.

Honestly it is a broken way to think and you will make yourself miserable living like a miser.

Saving is all well and good, but when you hear about otherwise well-off people refusing to buy their kids good food or presents and constantly being cheap as shit, refusing to tip at restaurants, etc, it's depressing. Live below your means but don't become Ebenezer Scrooge.

You're already doing more than I do so kudos! My research generally involves searching sectors in finviz, looking at all the charts for the profitable or near profitable companies, adding the best looking ones to watchlist. Once it's on watchlist it's mostly TA from there for me (I don't long hodl). The other slapdash technique that has worked on occasion is getting on a search engine and typing 'best (sector) stocks'. This will bring up a bunch of yellow biz news articles, some of which occasionally contain companies I may have overlooked. I research the broad strokes of the better looking companies and see if there's anything worth paying attention to there.

Investing in something you fully you do on your free time (a.k.a understand) and actively talk about/hear people talk about. The same reason you always kept up on popular trends while you were in school, but barely have any fucking clue what kids in that age does nowadays or what the trend is until it pops up on youtube as a "cringe comp" or some shit. AMD for example, that was the first stock I ever invested in (well other than Bitcoin I guess) and I have held that for roughly 5 years now. The reason I bought was simply because people were actively talking about AMD being able to put up a fight against Nvidia in the future and my friends were split on it for years. Some bought AMD some bought Nvidia, so I just knew right there that AMD wouldn't go away hence the reason I bought.. not to mention that AMD was very cheap compared to Nvidia. I believe Nvidia was like 21 and AMD 1.5 or something.
Other than that just follow a few rules that are easy to find online just so you're completely clear that the company won't go bankrupt in a few months. I have a list of things to look for in company to know its healthy, but I would never invest for the long term in a company I barely understand.

For starters it's trading at a good discount right now due to earnings miss and golden sacks downgrade.
Secondly they have some other good names like lunchables, capri sun, and kool aid that are easy sellers.

Same shit any educated long already knows about, NO drugs on the market, no institutional buys, little insider buying (though some will say this is promising because it means if they’re currently in talks for being bought out there may be restrictions on buying—this seems highly doubtful since there has been nothing to suggest any interest in the company, and that usually coincides with promising results and institutional/hedge buying)

Add into that the fact that the company is low on money and won’t be able to get through to final phases of FDA approval without a cash injection.

Add to that the past allegations of paying promoters (of course denied and unproven but oftentimes where there’s smoke...)

Add to that they were trading at 0.75 a couple of years ago, which makes issuing shares (dilution) seem even more appealing.

(Full disclosure: I own shares and one LEAP call. But since I’ve been following the space more closely and listening to more biotech analysis... I’ve grown very skeptical. Especially since that last report where they announced that basically they’re broke)

That's the main point in buying small cap bio though, higher risk, higher reward.

Again, valid issue, however i don't see du diluting himself. He could make another company and give them funds in exchange for royalties for example. So there are still other options if no buyout happens when they have a billionaire as chairman
> paid promoters
I don't really care about these, moreso because as i recall this stems from some article which was pure gibberish

Analyst valuations are still another thing i don't care about, because the fact that galt is viewed as a nash company is beyond me. They go for nash because that is the easiest: get the dosage right and wait till enough people die in the placebo group. Really a shame the late ceo had such an ineptitude to mess it up. You just need to execute and go into beast mode. During that dec 2018 correction, stocks went down 20-30%. Msft went down 10%.

Thing is, maybe keytruda ISN'T even more effective than Opdivo plus Yervoy, or maybe AstraZeneca's new shit or that new Chinese drug are identical or better by miles. What matters is the FDA, the physicians, the insurance providers, the whole damn system seems to have bought in. Could be lobbyists, drug salespeople (often former cheerleaders btw), marketing to consumers, or just ingenious patient selection for trials. Whatever they're doing, the growth of the drug is incredible, and galt doesn't have anyone in their corner except one billionaire richie rich.

Explain your logic here.

All the swing rule means is they'd have to wait 6 months to sell shares. If they had a hunch that a buyout were in the works, they could just hold the shares for six months and not sell.

There's no reason NOT to buy, all it means is that if the deal closed within 6 months from the buy, they would not be able to take profits for at least six months, and these things often take many months to close (look at CBS & Viacom, BMY and Celgene, DIS and FOX, UTX and RTN...). If they are FORCED to sell when the deal closed, I guess meaning it were an all cash deal and the buyers were adamant that that was non-negotiable that management take cash and not shares, then they would forfeit the profit from that trade.

>The short-swing profit rule is a Securities & Exchange Commission regulation that requires company insiders to return any profits made from the purchase and sale of company stock if both transactions occur within a six-month period.

The CEO and CFO were both friends with Traber I think. They sold early when Traber left and are being given heavy payment incentives to stay employed there. Even they likely want to be sold and gone. Czirr and Uihlein have both said they want to partner or sell.

They also bumped up the base pay of those two which means a bigger payment in the event of a buyout next year anyway.

I think the writing on the wall is they will sell. Just not sure when.

If you're trying to get paid dividends start looking at things you can hold for a long time. As the price of the stock goes up you get more return on your investment since you purchased it at a lower price and the percent dividend is based on the current stock price.

It doesn't make much sense to keep selling and buying risky investments and waiting for them to pay out dividends. If you sell them right away after they pay out then the stock will likely be a little lower since they just paid everybody part of their profit.

Tip for gold bugs here as I know there are at least a couple of you. While gold continues to dry hump resistance in bull flag pattern, keep a close eye on the USD; USD/EUR pair in particular. In addition to market instability, gold will be best served by continued weakness in the USD against the other major currencies.

As i'm writing this the gold benchmark has risen above 1515 resistance working its way to my anticipated largest hurdle at around 1518. Currently trading between 1518.60 and 1519.10. Futures have advanced ahead to 1520.

not sure why someone hasnt already said it but if youre gonna only buy mining stocks and lots of them theres no point in researching the indivdual companies, just reasearch the sector. With the amount of companies youll buy into the more you buy the more youll just end up getting the market average of that sector.

Disagreed. You want the companies most likely to rake in plenty of extra revenue from a rise in the underlying commodity. So what im trying to say is stay away from the average if you wanna make your research worth the time. Imagine researching hundreds of companies from accross the whole market. youd be better off just buying the indice. serious amount of research time should be spent on a more smaller range of companies, Less chance of the average but more risk thus the need for useful research time.

God damn it. I’ve been really wanting to add commodities exposure, they’re supposed to be at multi-year lows, they never go to zero, and they’re more attractive valuation wise compared to stocks.

But I just KNOW. As soon as I add some more Barrick gold, paper silver, or buy into USOI, it’s gonna fuggin dump. Oil has already rallied quite a bit, and gold and silver, they look to have rallied a lot as well.

Options activity keeps looking bullish on things like KL, NEM and PAAS... and yet I did nothing.

Another day, another 50% up for All-Options Anon. This time thanks to a buttload of quarterly SPY and QQQ puts. I didn't even wake up until 10am. Market bought all my orders, nothing but net, most hitting 10-15% from the highs of the day. Feels good.

Opened shorts via long puts on NVDA, AMZN, and TSLA for this week. Longed stock on I and INTC (questioning my decision here, but I think it wants to retest 60 and go higher while the rest of the semis flounder about since it pretty much sat and consolidated during the last few weeks). Longed COST, CRSP and AMZN via put credit spreads that expire later this month.

Tripled my account in the last 7 trading sessions--and that is including a 30% haircut last Friday. AMZN, SHOP, QQQ, SPY, NVDA, TSLA have been my big winners. GLD honorable mention.

Next, looking for an entry on LCI at 7.50 in the coming week or two. Also contemplating some futures positions on bonds and basedbean oil. Basedbean oil looks like a short, but I want to see 36 before selling. Euro/usd still kicking my own ass over closing my long on Friday night before the big green dildo happened.

Gonna buy an AMZN 1900 call for the week prior to earnings if it drops to test 1800-1825 this week.

Just awful entries based on thinking 'welp, it's gone down so fast it must be due for a bounce!'.

All of this was an important lesson for me to learn. Pinpricks weren't enough. Knife catch cuts weren't enough. I needed a full force horse kick to the teeth. Got my act together, did much better for the remainder of the year.

Look into leveraged ETFs and decided if they are the right thing for you. Having one or two as a small percentage of your overall portfolio can spice things up.

GME is getting cornered.. lots of calls bought friday and today.. wouldn't be suprised to see a lot getting executed early.

Over 100% of the float is short heading into 2020 and both xbox 2 and ps5 are going to launch 2020... could see a huge climb back into mid-teens

I'll take my consistent gains from Boomer stocks over the volatile nonsense that goes up 10% in a day only to drop 15 over the next week. If we have a bad day the worst that I'll see is 7% and that's a recession. We're good.
