why do I need to go to university for engineering? all the advanced calculations are done by software, the only people who are actually using diff equations are the guys building the software to do the computations for me

can I just learn the finite element analysis part of stuff and get an engineering job? just because I can't solve proofs doesn't mean I can't use the software like a brainlet

when you go to the university you are supossed to act like an npc and do whatever they tell you to do and just focus on get that paper orrrrr if you are smart you could just make a bussines

the degree is an obstacle to thin the herd. If you want to be an engineer an engineering degree isn't hard

although universities are selling out and becoming social clubs funded by debt

I just don't have patience to do tedious ass proofs when I know a computer can out calculate me.

Shit is boring and expensive

in some countries you need to be registered before you can engineer shit or sign off on shit, basically an engineering liocence. you need the university qualification to get your loicenmce

If you want to limit yourself to that you can become a technician.

It’s all good champ. Someone has to be the technician. We can’t all make the big bucks. I look forward to ordering you around.

I didn't say that. The software doesn't always do what you need it to.

How often are you actually doing computations that software isn't doing?

You're either in high level stuff, R&D, or something niche

>> No.16685853

You need to understand what you're doing. FEA software can be very useful, but you can get the wrong results, so it's important to know how to reality check your work.

However, it may be possible to learn FEA first and become a technical engineer. Then, when you've done that, you have the option of going to uni later (possibly part time) and becoming a professional engineer with heaps of engineering experience.

I suggest you talk to engineering firms and see if they'd be interested in hiring you as a technical engineer using FEA software. I you find one that will, go for it!

Actually solid advice. This is how I got into computer science. Going to school with years of work experience was far more effective and I could have stuck as the technician and had well paying jobs without going to school too.

Then it is good you wont be an engineer

yeah this guy gets it on some level. You can certainly do basic bitch shit like CAD and how to actually input stuff, but an engineer does more than just crank calculations. You need to understand how to use the info and figure out if it's right or not.

Believe me I've thrown a LOT of shit at FEA and I couldn't tell you if it was truly right or not. I was fascinated by it though, kinda sucks I ended up in the position I did and don't do much on the engineering side but oh well.
