The funny part about this argument is that if it was truly about passion and not ROI, then you could have chosen to just sit in on your local public university's lectures and learn the material for free without taking the exams and getting the degree. This book actually represents an incredible hybrid of those two positions ("passion" vs money/success). Nike was basically started by one fucking guy (Phil Knight) and honestly was kind've a passion project in many ways. But he's also smart and knew how to capitalize on opportunities. Also a pretty funny book, I'd recommend reading it.

I fell for the STEM meme and am balls deep in the doctoral meme just to be solvent. Thankfully it’s only a 3 year clinical doctorate, I have no debt and I can make 6 figures at the end if I bust my ass. The cozy six figure desk job where I browse 4chinz and shitpost will never be my destiny sadly.

I have definitely played the passion card to cope before. If only I knew about Finance when I was in college or honed some skill. I do love what I do now but the opportunity cost is a punch in the gut to think about.

Remember, kiddos, college is a stepping stone for making money.
