At the very core, what motivates humans? Capitalism or altruism?

I think it's goofy to assign one motive to all humans.

Imagine what a joke stock trading would be if you could have one golden rule to estimate how people will act.

Other humans are ultimately unknowable, and that's ok. It'd be mad boring otherwise.

Uh, not really to be honest!

This isn't a diss at all, but maybe we just hang with different crowds, I often feel my friends are far more altruistic than I, and I still think I'm a pretty decently empathetic person.

However, for every friend I have that cooks for strangers, I know there's someone out there who would vote to have their own healthcare taken away, just to "get at" someone they feel shouldn't have it, so I just think people of similar minds tend to congregate.

are we talking about an everyday thing or once in a while occurence? would those same friends cook for a group of strangers instead of their own family?

blackpill: capitalism is altruism
high time preference brainlets practice capitalism without altruism or altruism without capitalism, see short term results from that, conclude their way is the way
high IQ chads realise on a long term horizon, an altruistic approach to capitalism generates the most profits and maximizes happiness for all parties

If they are sapient, it depends on what their long-range goals are. Whatever brings them towards those goals is what motivates them.

For the other people, whatever satisfies their immediate needs. Usually sex or money, or both.

altruism created capitalism, but just like there are people in your life that will try to use or take advantage of you, there are also some companies in a free market that do the same. I.E. tobacco companies

because of this there are companies that also abuse capitalism to make a quick buck and not to benefit others. But it depends in your mind if the good outweighs the bad parts of capitalism

I mean, not every day but yeah, cases I was thinking include
1. Friend A has been cooking for an old disabled divorcee like once every other week for years, no benefit in that.

2. Friend B raises money non-stop for various drug/fare-beating prisoner's bail, they don't personally know these people and no benefit to them

3. Friend C has housed a homeless woman for months now, no benefit in that.

Hell, my mom raises abandoned animals at great personal cost, and those rabbits ain't ever paying her back. Some folks just do things because it helps. Plenty others will do something just because it hurts someone. Too many humans for them all to behave the same way.

love of nation and country used to be a huge motivator. now it's been replaced with empty consumerism, which works for some people, but not others, as evidenced by our drug and suicide epidemic.

Consider: what you consider to be exceptional, was just the basics of hospitality to your grand-parents. This "Me First, No One Else Later" modern American mentality only benefits bankers.

You've been robbed of the social contract owed to us all, and gain nothing by pretending it's *tough* to hoard your shit. It's just miserly, a trait you claim to detest in others.

Seriously, it's cucked to think acting like your monied overlords buys you escape from their schemes. You still won't get a pension, but now you've been fooled into not fighting for others pensions, making your own chances of liberation nill.

Why would you want to live in a world where the default is greed? It's not natural, but you've accepted it. Why?

Aiding a positive society in which certain desirable things are attainable (like a non-roastie girlfriend), which then coincides with you happily continuing working in it even if you were to turn said desirable things down. But in this situation, in which you could take it if you wanted, you are in a healthy state of mind and position of power. Regardless of whether or not you accept these things in the end.

he said what motivates humans, survival is not a motivation, it's a biological instinct that people follow without even realizing. if people create a business, it's to get money, not for surviving. people are rewarded dopamine for good thing they do for the gene's survival. maybe your answer was true 30k years ago, but now, basic needs are easily fulfilled. people no longer aim for survival, but for happiness. that's because we're too dumb to figure out how to not die at all.
