theres really two types of advertising: branding and direct response.
branding is 99% of the shit you see out there, its engineered to get you to associate a positive feeling with a brand. in hopes that when you stand in the supermarket you will actually buy that brand because good feels. also bigger brands just like to remind you that they exist sometimes. "oh right coca cola is a thing. maybe i should buy some." now the irony is corporations spend hundreds of millions on these branding campaigns and have no way of tracking results. its mostly a circlejerk for advertising agencies that make up fancy reports and tell their corporate clients about "engagement" "brand value" and other esoteric shit that has no measurable metrics and questionable influence on actual sales. its not really surprising that branding has been taken over by SJWs because theres really no way to see if/how an ad improves your sales. big corps are literally throwing millions at advertising agencies and have no clue what the ads do in terms of results.
the other side is direct response advertising, like the shit you see on late night infomercials or the hour long video sales letters on the internet. with this kind of advertising the results are tracked so if ads dont perform you never see them again.
tl;dr if all ads were direct response you would never see this kinda shit

oh tehre are many ways to quantify an ad campaign, its just that brand advertising uses none of them. you could use coupons with a certain code, setup a dedicated website or a phone number. that is what direct response is all about they literally track the responses an ad generates. but with branding nothing gets tracked so even if sales go up after an ad campaign there is no way to tell if it wasbecause of the ad or just random. I have worked with big agencies and corporate clients and you wouldnt believe how much money gets pissed away on shitty, untargeted and unquantified advertising. the only reason these SJW ad campaigns keep running is because their metrics arent tracked I guarantee if they started tracking results those ads would disappear real quick. in direct response the only ads you keep seeing are ones that actually convert and make money.

My company bought ads on airplanes. Specifically for routes that company c level execs take. It was done at a powermove as we are aware of certain conferences and we have active bids with many of the customers who would be on those flights.
Stuck our brand infront of their faces to show our dick size off.
No idea if the ads contributed to wins but it did create conversation points with decision makers in companies.

Truth. I work in tech and have a mate that runs huge campaigns for big tech hardware vendors. Hp, Dell, etc. N
Because it is mostly edm based it is tracked, but they just change the metrics each month slightly so the outcome is better each time. They use funding that is meant to be available to small business stores, but it's virtually impossible to access as the store. Over time they have got the larger stores to report all sales of a particular brand as theirs. They then throw them some $$ kickback.

It is a giant scam. I do some seo and edm marketing, but it is not like nonsense tv marketing. Having said that anyone with half a brain could do it.
