It is highly probable and likely that India has physical possession of more above ground (mined) gold than any other country in the world and unverified sources claim that this could be up to 20-25% of the gold ever mined (~170,000 tonnes).

The Indian Federal Government's gold holding pales in comparison to privately held gold (with approximately 600 tonnes in federal reserve India comes a poor 10th in the world). But one can say with confidence that despite the rampant stealing of the metal from India in the past by all and sundry the overwhelming affinity for the metal by the large Indian population (Indians have been buying gold at a clip of 400-800 tons every year) tilts the title of largest holdings of gold in India's favour.

The statistics reflect gold’s importance to Indian culture. Estimates suggest that up to 8% of spending in Indian homes goes towards gold jewellery and coinage, and last year the World Gold Council announced that verified private gold holdings in India were at least 25,000 tonnes.

Being a pajeet I have listened many stories about naked sadhu babas who can turn any shit into gold and made many devotees rich they then donate this gold to temples. Anything is possible on India not just IT support.

This post makes that hotdog water guy look like a fucking genius.

Firstly, how much gold is 25% really worth.
Well it's believed that 190,040 tonnes of gold has been mined in history, which makes 6,109,927 troy ounces of gold, or just north of 37 trillion US dollars.
Sounds like a lot doesn't it... but wait, there's like a BILLION people in India. Suddenly that means that if India had even 25% of all the gold, it means there's something like $9,333 dollars of gold per person.

For comparison, the current market value of US gold reserves is stated to be 388.4 bn, making just the gold RESERVES, not even gold held privately about $1,109 per capita.

I call bullshit, or is that street shit? I forget what it's called in India.

So, if India is so fucking rich... why is it still a third world country? I realize there's horrible wealth in equality there, where your Mittals and Tata familys, who live in London anyway, control most of the wealth.

But you want me to believe that India has 9x the gold of the US gold reserves, yet they still open defecate in streets and have smog levels worse than cigarette smoke?

That's unironically based tho. They'd rather spend money on crypto or PMs than plumbing. Pretty much what /biz/ should aspire to be.
