They say things like this because they don’t know what else to say.

I work for a big corporation and no one really knows what anyone else does all day especially not the managers. They generally have an idea, like Bob processes invoices or the like, but they don’t know the details. As long as the reports say invoices are getting processed they leave Bob alone.

HR is even further removed. A lot of them get assigned to recruit for a position they didn’t even know existed prior. They talk to the manager who says “this position processes invoices” but you can’t put just that up on monster so you add a bunch of other gibberish you copy pasted out of some hiring manual a consultant wrote who knew even less about the company and job than you do.

I'm a programmer. I'm a bad-ass motherfucker who can get my job done and everyone else's job done while I'm at it. But I cannot delegate any of my work. The fucking pajeet who they tried to pawn on me takes more effort to manage than it would be for me to do it myself. So, yes, I want to be part of a team, the project is too big for even my big dick. But, no, I don't want help or management, I want to do my fucking job and be left alone.
