/b/ fag here. Why is everyone so obsessed with crypto? 9/10 threads are talking about BTC, Link, and other shit. I came here thinking it could glean some info, but allI got was a bunch of people with no sense trying to get rich quick, while sucking the dicks of anyone lucky enough to invest at the right time. There is no get rich quick scheme unless you want to flip a coin and potentially get yourself into a get poor quick scheme.

To anyone looking to get rich:
Open a long term investment account (roth IRA preferrably)
Invest into mutual funds / index funds monthly as part of your budget, and consistently, regardless of market ups or downs, it will recover (if it gets into a depression you have more than money to worry about)
Delay gratification, make better choices with your money, lower disposable income.
Stop trying to get rich quick.

So many of you guys seem like children who let money slip through your hands into unflippable assets / shit you don't need, and then you cry when you don't have money. Be smart and being rich will follow suit.

data is the new oil and we're all trying to latch on to "the next big thing." we're attempting to invest in the fourth industrial revolution any way we can.

i don't know why /biz/ is 90+% about crypto, thats probably a mistake, there are definitely other ways to make money. but 4chan posters tend to be autistic computer nerds and a lot of us are looking for the easiest way to secure a future. having a chance to invest in technologies of the future from our own homes is very alluring. i can't get fired from buying chainlink. there's HR manager who can't prevent me from investing in chainlink because i said maybe one dumb thing in a 45 minute interview. there's no one saying i'm "overqualified to buy chainlink" or "underqualified to buy chainlink" for not having a degree. there's no one saying "why didn't you work for a year" before i buy link. and being able to invest in startups is insane for us because in the past that was only open to real investors with real money, in multi thousand or multi million dollar deals. now any random fuckwit can invest in startups.

so there isn't a high barrier to entry. will some people get burned? yeah. and it isn't smart to be only interested in cryptos as the only way to make money. but for a lot of us its probably the best way that we've found to being able to invest in future technologies.

It's because 2017 happened.
I bought a bunch of coins, ETH, ARK, KMD, STRAT, ANS/NEO, XRB/NANO, DNET/PIVX, XRP, SC, MAID, GNT even fucking BitBean. Bought literally every ICO I knew about, most were even sold out within seconds.

Literally all of them went at least x2 at the very minimum, some x3 x5 x10, the best ones even did a x100 or more.

Even clear ponzi scams like BitConnect. Even at the very bottom of the crash, it STILL doubled in price TWICE.

You could've closed your eyes threw a dart at CoinMarketCap, bought whatever it landed on, and you'd have doubled or tripled your money in a month or two, GUARANTEED. And sometimes even landed a x10 or x20 or more.

Granted, this has not happened anymore in the last 2 years (there were some very lucky picks, but even the required you to buy the very bottom and sell the very top... 2017 was MUCH MUCH more lenient).

I guess everyone is just chasing after the rush that we got back then, like junkies still looking for their next high.

I have to admit, it was extremely addicting.
I used to do lots of online marketing, earned thousands of dollars from it, and did some passive income gigs, sold ebooks, sold some apps.

Now I can't even be arsed to even look at those options anymore. Not when you've experienced earning 1 years worth of income within a day just by making the right pick... repeatedly in a single month.

Can't get enough of it, even though it's been 2 years since then.

I like your response.

First though, I think that attitude of the next big thing is blinding some to longer term opportunities, that require patience, while they chase the dragon of money.

Second, if you want to invest in emerging technologies in a less flip-a-coin, will I be bankrupt? kind of way, then just invest in tech-centric mutual / index funds. $0 minimum buy in, just buy fractions of a 'share' whenever you want, and as technology continues to grow so will your investments.

As for the high barrier to entry. Definitely, but that's kind of how it goes.

I think it's kind of important to realize though, that I can look back and say "damnit what if I invested here" and be sad about my loss of opportunity, but you can say that for so many more opportunities I could've been burned on, and it seems like alot of you are ignoring those burnings, and just running around trying to throw your money at stuff hoping to find wealth.

>>16317144
Sounds like you got lucky. Sounds like that era has passed, and you as well as others are still grabbing at straws to pull whatever is left of 2017 out. But watch out, because you may just get pulled in yourself. RIP your money?

I'm actually lucky.
I was a noob when I got in, and I just bought anything I saw being mentioned a lot, and sold when I got a x2, x5, x10... Basically whenever it felt like musical chairs have stopped and we were freefalling.

When everything started crashing in 2018, I got scared and just sold almost everything and now I'm just waiting on the sidelines.

Have a few bitcoins left in case it becomes the world reserve currency like some bitcoin maximalists are predicting, but now I'm much more cautious, after I've recognized that most coins in 2017 were just pumps-and-dumps, and I was just lucky to have bought at the start of most pumps and sold near the top of most as well.

Not like the others who got fooled into bagholding their coins by spiels like "better tech" or "real life use cases", especially since most coins lost 95% of their value since 2017, and now they have to grasp at straws shilled here by hired marketers, like LINK and whatever the scam coin of the month is.

I can imagine how they felt though... They were here in 2017, managed to get x10 or x20 of their money, then fell for the propaganda and bagheld to -95%. They can't leave anymore...the paper losses must trigger some kind of sunk cost feeling, and the thrill of 2019 keeps them hoping they can make it back.

Like someone who won jackpot at a casino once, and then gambles everything away afterwards, hoping for one more win.

this is unironically sensible commentary and good advice. are you sure youre from /b/? you pretty much hit the nail on the head, biz is full of underage retards hoping to get rich from their $500 "investments". a bunch of fags here got lucky in 2017 and made a bunch of money, but way more lost TONS of money. nobody here has any willpower, ability to delay gratification, discipline or even real intelligence. its a bunch of defeatist losers who see crypto as their last hope. thats why you will never see real business ideas, online marketing or other shit that takes effort being discussed.

I'm actually scared of all the "incoming recession" predictions the doomsayers are making.

How nothing got fixed after the 2008 crash, and the bailouts just kicked the can further down the road...
All the recent fed repos, threats of a trade war, negative interest rates...
How Deutsche bank is supposedly collapsing and how intertwined they are with so many traditional financial institutions...

How pic related is happening now...

How Zuck recently sold a lot of Facebook stock, almost $300m worth. How Apple CEO Tim Cook sold over $50m of Apple stock. How Bezos sold almost $3B of Amazon stock. All within 3 months of each other, just recently this year...

How Dow, S&P500, and most stocks like AAPL are at all time highs...

I basically don't want to buy the top, right before a possible crash/recession.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin halving is in like 6 months, and that usually always triggers bull runs like 2017.

I think I prefer waiting on the sidelines here.
But you are welcome to convince me otherwise.

Well the fed has been lowering bond rates for a while to artificially boost the economy for a while now. P/E ratios are insane. Generally the FED is just supposed to manage the ups and downs of the market to prevent another depression, but supposedly Trump thought the natural downturn soon (a natural thing) would be bad for the election, and got the fed to keep going further down to keep artificially inflating the market.

At any rate, this is certainly a high point for the market, but it's not going to crash, money isn't going to fall apart. I am still investing my money, because if you invest consistently the bumps will even out. I just auto deposit into my fidelity account every month anyways.

They probably realize these things and just want to take some cash out so they can buy back once the market hits a low. Which btw, if you want to invest, invest when we start turning the market around, alot of cheap, undervalued stock.

Op is the biggest retard in this thread. Of course you can babble on about the benefits of safely investing vs high risk investments. That’s not a difficult argument to make, for anyone. But when you take that retarded spin off and look at things for what they are- your dumb fat ass is going to miss the opportunity of your lifetime because you followed your fathers advice, who is probably poor as fuck anyway. Be sure to bookmark the thread so you can come back in 40 years and brag about how right you were and how you were able to get 10% roi. Just because you clearly don’t understand something, you think it’s stupid. In reality, you’re just stupid, and will be left in the dust. Hopefully you don’t revisit this board anytime soon to see everything that was right in front of you and easily available to you explode in value while you were trying to sell us MUTUAL BONDS and thinking you’re the wolf of Wall Street.

Worst thing is that, it then went to trade higher and people who bought could've actually made money from this crap if they sold any time the price was above their buy price.

Wouldn't you be interested in hedging a bit into crypto though?

I'd dare say, if you are intending to be properly diversified, you should own at least even a single bitcoin.

If you are financially independent, purchasing a single bitcoin should be a very small risk (money you could probably even afford to lose), but the upside potential is so huge, it actually seems financially irresponsible to not hedge and have a single one when you can easily afford it.

I have .5 bitcoin or something to that effect in a paper wallet. I just never really felt like sending more to it when I've been making a consistent 15+% ROI with a well managed fund. That's going down soon, but bitcoin and cryptos are not very stable, and I would rather keep steady 'small' growth than dump more into bitcoin.
