In my early accounting classes it was almost like I knew it already before taking the class. Advanced classes are just as you say memorization and nothing that makes much sense. The worst part is in the real world it is teams of people that do these things and no one is going to give you that responsibility. My company does no consolidation work. They hire a team of external auditors to do it all.

This. When i took Accounting in college, they would literally give us projects to do that would be done by at least 3 or 4 people in the real world. And they barely explained anything. They expected us to know shit that they never taught us.
